Featuring Centhron | Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 19-aug 2009
Thanks Centhron that you have found time to give answers to these questions,For the first question will be - do you know the netherlands
For sure! We already presented our music there.
Greetings Centhron could you please shortly introduce our readers your music project Centhron?
We exist since 2001 founded by Jörg Herrmann and me, Elmar Schmidt. We are an hard electronic music project, that wants to transport our aggressions on the stage. For live we are four person. Anette Schmidt (Synth), Stefan Thies (Bass), Melly Thies (Female Vox) and me (Vox). We just released our third album “Roter Stern” and looking forward to have a tour in autumn 2009.
Please fill also a biographical resume about how, when and where... Centhron was founded in 2001 give us a more background information?
First we made a Demo CD called “Melek Taus”. There was a good resonance so we completed the sound, wrote new songs and released it as “Lichtsucher”. Three years later we thought it was time to release another CD. Many people asked for it and there were so many songs we wanted to release so we created “Gottwerk”. Now, again three years later we released “Roter Stern”.
How did you start to make music and what is music for you ?
I make music since I was born I think. First I played drums. 1992 we founded Execution, a Death Metal Band with much potential I think. We recorded our only CD “Contrast” 1998.There were many other projects but really influenced to Centhron was Das – Werk. Music is my live, without music I would be not the person I am.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
As I wrote. First I made Death Metal, now hard electro!
What and who are some of your influences in music
Metal, some electronic music, Hardstyle. I think no special bands but lots of styles.
What are your top ten favorite EBM / Industrial Club Songs of all time?
Suicide Commando – Hellraiser
LFO – Tied Up
Converter – Death Time
Wumpscut – Soylent Green
Noisuf X – Hit me Hard
S.I.T.D. – Snuff Machinery
Feindflug – Stukas im Visir
Agonoize – Koprolalie
Das Ich – Destilat (VNV RMX)
Centhron – Eisenfresse ;-)
Tell one secret about Centhron that you have never told to anyone?
I think there are no secrets. The only one, will be still a secret;-)
By the way do you like my questions? ;-)
I have to think, thats difficult for me!;-)
You know there are lot of fans of ebm-industrial in the netherlands,We have organized a contest. and we have received hundreds of questions from your fans and if it is possible you will choose the most interesting one for you
You mean I should write it down here?
What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?
Aggressions - Hate - Sex – Unity. I think these words can show you what we want to tell.
What’s the name of your band? What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before?
No, this was the first and only try! But the meaning of it you can deceide.
When you start to record a new The release date of our new album "Roter Stern" is 29.05.2009!!!, is all the writing done or does it continue in the studio the new album "Roter Stern" will be published with Scanner (Dark Dimensions). Mixed by Jan L. (Noisuf X?
If “Gottwerk” was released, I started to write new songs.
where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell me why this title "Melek Taus"? Tell us a few words about the concept of this first Demo "Melek Taus" in 2002. What inspired you to make music together?
We are looking forward to tour in Germany and Austria in autumn. “Melek Taus” was recorded as we played our first live gig with Feindflug. Even the lyrics are in english it..s difficult for me to translate the meaning of it in english. We all have the same feelings if we listen to music and so we tried to make music together.
so tell me about the labels?
We are happy to work with Frank and Scanner! It..s the best we could do! He is very interested in his bands and is professional in what he do.
Are you a member of any music organizations
No.
How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
Online soon!
What do you think of a modern music and about gothic scene ?
Iit..s a music mix of different styles. We use elements of “Hardstyle” and “Trance”. In the electronic scene are many “Techno” elements, that makes the music groovy and I think we all are open to other music styles.
Our usual question - what is gothic for you?
It..s a peacful scene with much fantasy. It opens minds. Here you can live your feelings however you want. There are not such drunken idiots that want to make trouble. For me it..s like a big family even I don..t like every music very much.
What was your best live experience so far?
I think if we play in milan it..s always special. Great people, great location, great city! The people there sing every melody and know the german lyrics, it..s very cool! Otherwise was the gig with Grendel and Suicide Commando in the Netherlands very cool too!
Please list the name, age, school, and respective instrument of each band member
School? We always visited school from outside the classroom;-) For ages I have to ask first my mates! Jörg is a great programmer! His sounds are really hard and groovy! Anette plays the synths live! Stefan plays bass live and on some tracks @ our new album (Dreckstück, Testosteron...). Melly is our female voice on the last and current album and for live! I write the songs, makes the programmings and the voices and screams. Live I just scream and move my ass.
What are your views on the current state of this electro scene in Germany.in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
I think there are many groups with an excelent sound and groovy tracks! In this scene is not much creativity, it..s not important. We all use sounds from other scenes (Techno, Hardstyle, etc), it..s music for dancing. No matter if it..s germany or another country.
you have very nice The album "Lichtsucher" (2003) tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
This album was very intensive. Jörg and I done the first steps of making music together. There was no straight way to create something, I think we tried and tried and then we tried again. Many evenings and nights...sometimes there were lyrics first and then we programmed a track, another day we tried and thought, wow, what a great sound (Traumkämpfer) and then I wrote the lyrics for it.
What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
Hardstyle and Death/Black Metal;-)
What do you do to chill out?
Fitness and music! Or I spend time with my girlfriend, watching DVD, read books or meet with friends to talk.
What are your favorite music? and What is your favorite band?
I think a big band in my live is Rammstein, this time I listen often to Deicide but I like classic music very much. Long time ago I wanted to study music, there are many great componists like Bach, Brahms, Dvorák, Penderecki and so on.
Out of all of your the second album "Gottwerk" (2006), a first-class electro-firework. This time supported by the label "Final Duskwhich album would you say is your favorite album? Why?
I don..t know. Each album has a history. Each song too. If I don..t like a song very much, I wouldn..t record it! So I like all my tracks the same way. Perhaps there are some tracks I like especially like Eisenfresse, Friss, Lichtsucher, Einheit C, WK III, Orkan...
So what are their main influences as a band at the moment?
Hardstyle and old hard Metal music!
What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? tell me all about the dark scene of Germany?
Currently I listen much Death Metal again, so my music sounds dark and hard in their hooklines. The scene is different if you are in the north of germany or the east. In the north the people are more “cool”, in the east burns the heads in the west is a big cyberscene and in the south I don..t know really. But I think there is much respect.
Do you think that people from the music press didn't expect you to grow up musically?
No.
what is the key to making music from Centhron? and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
ike every real musician I think. My feelings!
How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth-industrial music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
It..s very hard! I read often that people write “yeah I love Centhron, cool songs” and then “where I can get the lyrics?”...In or booklet. There is much money we and our label have to pay to make this songs possible, it..s not only a problem for the gothic scene. Musicians suffer these days! I have no idea, I know it..s expensive to buy every good CD and there is not much money within the gothic scene.
If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
Yes. Everyone hate to know that we are NO rasist band!
what do you do in your spare time?
In what time??
What do you think of its intermingling with the electro, Darkwave and EBM scenes? while electro is your main musical pallet, what other music do you listen to?
As i wrote. Metal and classic music.

How and why did you begin to make music? Why various electronic styles?
My first real band was Execution, a Death Metal band. It..s my love till now! Since I was born I tried to play drums, this was/is my main instrument.
Awesome! Tell me, are there any new bands out there lately that you're into, any tips for the future? Are you working on any current or future projects? What is the future for your music?
I will think about my first electro project called Das-Werk. If there is time, I will write some tracks. The next Centhron album will be a vast and great electronic opus I think!
