Featuring  snowwy from Standgericht | Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 02-aug 2009

Thanks snowwy that you have found time to give answers to these questions,
it is my pleasure

Greetings snowwy could you please shortly introduce our readers your music project Standgericht ?
Standgericht is a project that tackles all sorts of subjects and expresses them ebm/rythmic noise style.

In fact the style has been named "Achtung Disko!" before because it is hard to pinpoint as to what style it really is. Achtung Disko is the name of my demo, which has been released on SkullLine and I have made two tracks; version 1 which is on Achtung Disko and version 2, which is going to be on my upcoming album Boots And Beats.
Please fill also a biographical resume about how, when and where... Standgericht was founded in....... by tell me more about Standgericht ?.....
Standgericht was founded one late night in Liverpool as a response to hearing too many bands who claim that they are original but everyone can hear that they use the concept of other bands. Standgericht means court martial and I decided that judgement day had come. It soon took its own route and became much less of a judging thing as I started to do my own thing and began to use unconventional instruments, such as classical kettle drums to give it a touch of my much beloved martial sounds and also lots of snares.

The aim was to create my own type of modern old school electro music, which sounds strange but I think it works and it has been received very well.
What and who are some of your influences in music
I could start naming bands but I do not think that any one band alone has influenced my music. I very much like Sonar and Dive but I also adore Will, DAF and Front 242 but I do not think that it is all that obvious when hearing Standgericht. My life as a person and musically inclined creature has led me to develop my own style, which varies a little from song to song and I do what feels and sounds right.

So far Standgericht has been somewhat light hearted but there are plans for darker and more serious tracks in the future.

What are your top ten favorite EBM Club Songs of all time?

DAF - Kebab Traume
Front 242 - Don't Crash
Nitzer Ebb - Isn't It Funny How Your Body Works
BiGod 20 - Carpe Diem
Clock DVA - Resistance
A;Grumh - Ich Und Meine Ananas
Wumpscut - Wreath of Barbs
Feindflug - Kahle Bedrohung
Suicide Commando - Hellraiser
Portion Control - The Great Divide

There would be so many more to name all of which I like and there are also other styles such as Industrial, Rythmic Noise, Martial, Synth Pop and others which are favourites of mine.
Tell one secret about Standgericht that you have never told to anyone?
If it is a secret that I have not told anyone about, then I am unlikely to disclose it here for everyone to read!

so tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
I have another two musical projects, one has been talked about since or at least has been mentioned here and there in my role of being the only female martial music project SnowW.Wwhite. The other is currently not available but it is Dark, opinionated, classic Industrial.

Musically, I have been in choirs, took a music exam, I can read music, used to play the clarinet in a Jazz band (I hate Jazz), sing for an indie project called ParisPigalle and generally view music as my life.
what else inspires you to create?
Everything has the potential to inspire me, if it clicks inside me, then I make a track about it but it does not always mean I make a Standgericht track out of it. Very often it is the odd things in life that grip me hard enough for me to decide to make a track of it.
Ok tell me a few things about.Standgericht How did you decide to form this project, give us a more background information
I know the first question is always boring but could you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about the stuff that you do?
I think I have done so earlier, Liverpool by night, feeling that I had something so say musically, I went for it.
Could you tell us a bit more about the origin of your band’s name?
Standgericht means court martial in German. The name came about on a drunken night, when I just wanted to pass judgement but I felt just passing judgement is not enough...

Could you tell us more about you Upcoming album Boots and Beats?
Boots And Beats is the fun side of looking at life and dance to it. Its rythmic, it is dancable and it is fun. Polish your boots and hit the floor... there are deliberately no undancable breaks in the music, its fit for boots enduced stomping.

It was a long battle to get it mastered, it seems a long battle to get it out but it is mastered now. There is no definet release date as yet but it is heading that way and if anybody would like to play it on the radio:

Send me an email to snoww.wwhite at gmail dot com.

Internet radios can get mp3s only, FM radios can get a finished copy later if they wish.

DJs can get mp3 files or higher quality, mail me to discuss.
where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your Release of your Demo on SkullLine is finished?
Boots And Beats is planned to be released, but I am already working on the next release, the working name is and most likely will be Anger Management but that is for next year...

or anything else you're working on?
Yes, I am continuing to work on SnowW.Wwhite music and on several other things, time permitting.
Tell me why this title "Achtung Disko!"? Tell us a few words about the concept of this demo?
Achtung Disko, now the genre name for my music, is a dancey mix of styles, it cannot be placed into any type of genre but it has leanings towards rythmic noise and EBM as well as martial and experimental.

Achtung Disko owes it's name to the fact that it is not industrial noise, it is dance, so it is fit for a disko ... well, at least a warped industrial/goth/EBM style of disko.

Achtung Disko were my first steps into creating something nobody has done so far and I think for most parts this was achieved.

tell me about te labels Label Electro Arc, SkullLine, Rebco, TBA?
Electro Arc is a tiny label who are looking for undiscovered talents to fill compilations. The driving force behind it is Intrendent, who is tirelessly looking for bands and who is giving all he has in order to make the releases happen. Intrendent is one of the most enthusiastic and dedicated people I have ever met and he should get much more credit for his work and his efforts to promote the great, unusual and worthwhile unsigned or almost undiscovered artist.

If any FM radio had the guts to permit non mainstream music on air, Intrendent would be the one to talk to...

SkullLine is a tiny CD-r label who release a variety of music be it industrial, martial, neofolk and others. I have allowed them to release my demo because I felt that it would be a nice gesture on my behalf to support the very small label who struggle for gaining a little foothold in the world of music. There will be no further releases on SkullLine from my bands though.

Rebco is an English label and I have been in discussion to release Boots And Beats with them but the TBA indicates that this has not been finalised yet and may well chance

How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
There is no tour yet. There is one performance in November in London (14th) in Camden at the Underworld.

There might be something like a promo tour next year.
Gife me more info about full length album. "Boots and Beats"?
Boots And Beats is a new take on dance music. It is different, it is dance, it is electro, rythmic and it is old school with a new edge to it. It is "cleaner" than the usual heavy beat music but it is by no means tame.

I am looking forward for your full length album
Mail me to get the music for review. I cannot provide the finished release to internet radios and zines due to cost but you can get the internet version of it.
What are your views on the current state of this electro scene in Verenigd Koninkrijk .in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
There are a few up and coming electro and electronic music projects but the recession has taken it's toll on promotion and gigs that are available. The UK is difficult and all too often unwilling or unable to take risks with unknown bands, which is a shame as I find some are very good and could in due time be venue fillers.

London clubs are very difficult and at the mercy of DJs who are keen to get new bands heard and danced to but I find more often than not, a lot of the DJs prefer to stick with the tried and tested and even sometimes resort to main stream music in order to keep dance floors busy and their bookings up.

Some UK DJ are not even looking for new music anymore and cannot even name the latest releases of long standing bands, which is a serious gripe of mine.

I personally hope that more guest DJs from all over Europe would find their way to UK clubs in order to show what can be done.

Sadly, I do not feel competent to comment on clubs, DJs or music scenes from other countries.
you have very nice album`and many many more tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
An idea gets into my mind, I sit down, I write the outline of the track, I add and modify until it sounds right... normally I add the vocals last but not always.

How do I create a song... I write the bass line first, seems to be my way.
Out of all of your album,or your up coming album, which album would you say is your favorite album? Why?
The current album is always the favourite. Everyone who makes music learns from the previous experience and at times we get sick of the old stuff because even by the time it gets released we have listened to it so often that we find it hard to hear it again and usually need a break from it.
What is currently inspiring your material as an artist?
My current situation inspires me right now. I am looking forward to doing plenty of more songs for the future album.

Tell me all about the dark scene of Verenigd Koninkrijk?
Dark scene, not sure there is much left of it. If I go to clubs and 50% of the tracks played, whether I personally like them or not are main stream tracks then I begin to think that there is not much left of the dark scene.

Even if I step on people's toes now, I really think that the candy, cyber dog, "play me Tiesto" rave babies should try and grow up and go to big clubs because they have destroyed a lot of the dark music scene in the UK with their constant demand for mainstream music.

I am utterly fed up with the decline of people who go to clubs in the UK who really are into dark music because of the ibiza music that gets played for hours... more of my rants on the subject on www.slimelight.net the forum section.
what is the key to making music from Standgericht?
Oddly enough C sharp mostly hahaha, I am sure you did not ask for that really.

Seriously, I want to express myself musically. Not just with Standgericht, I need music to find a release for all the things that happen in life... otherwise I go even more nuts than I already am.

and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
Next release will be better... I need to get it better...
What ideas, movements and personalities would you say were crucial for the definition and development of Standgericht as a creative entity?
Me myself and I, then my closest friends, you know who you are, the support of certain people and life itself and the serious amounts of crap it throws at you.
If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
I would like them to listen to it and love it or loathe it but know it.
Tell us a little bit more about Standgericht what do you do in your spare time?
I do Standgericht in my spare time, I have no other spare time, though I steal a bit of time every so often in order to relax.
My main time filler is my full time job, which my children and I need to survive.

What do you think of its intermingling with the electro, Darkwave and EBM scenes? while electro is your main musical pallet, what other music do you listen to?
Dark music is my life, I love it, I love electro/electronic. I listen to the music I like, there is no hard and fast rule to it but it is usually the dark type.

How long have you been in the music industry and how has it changed over time?
I have only started in 2004 with snowW.Wwhite but I have been into music for a long time and usually performed other people's music.
Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
Boots And Beats and Loss And Losing, which is my upcoming snowW.Wwhite release.

How and why did you begin to make music?
I needed an outlet and music is ideal. I did not set out to do it for anyone else but myself and I came further than I thought I would ever do.

Why various electronic styles? tell us about your unique style of music
Electro and electronic is what I personally like most, so it is only natural to do it myself as well. My style is unique because I am and because I have not got any major label who would demand that I should do anything else but what is right for me, which I consider lucky.
Are you currently working on or planning any new releases? Are you working on any current or future projects? What is the future for your music?
The future? Well, I am already writing on the next release after Boots And Beats, so watch this space. There will be more from me and my music soon, I have enough things I want to make music about, so the floodgates are open.
