Featuring Max |from Whitar Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 1 januari 2010 21:06

01- For the first question will be - Thanks Max that you have found time to give answers to these questions,How are you doing?
I’m confused a bit, it will be our first interview so far, and I will try to answer as interesting, as possible) We’re on work right now, we want to expand our gear a bit, so no gigs at least for half a year. It was a great year for our band, much personal success and we got a lot of positive feedback. Ok, so I’ll start with questions)

02-Hello Max what noise do you make in Whitar?
I write the electronic part of our music.

03-How's the start of 2010 been for you thus far?
2010 brought us new ideas, fresh look on what we want to achieve, maybe more value of our teamwork.

04-do you know the netherland?
No, I’ve never been to Netherland, but gladly visit you)

05-For a lot of people, this is probably going to be their first full introduction to Whitar so how about you tell us a little bit about how you guys know each other and how the band came together?
Music became my hobby, and I spent 3 years, making sounds and attempt to write something notable) Then after a while of practice I started to make some achievement, and wanted to give my music a name. I decided for Whitar, as a name for a spaceship, chariot of gods taken from Slavonic mythology. I involved my friend to compose guitars, and some time ago a year of our team work has passed. We came out with our first demo, and were invited to our first gig.
I appreciate that our music is getting much interest, especially from abroad, and I would like to thank all the people for all kinds of remarks, critics and assist.

06- Do you follow the electronic music scene, do you have any other favourite bands?
As for the scene, we do our music firstly for our own pleasure, we willingly share it with people, and I think, we’ve got some real fans) We came close to brake beat, industrial hardcore, as well as influences of ambient, trance and IDM music. Our tastes are much the same, but guitarist is fond of more heavy music- black metal, hardcore, deathmetal. I have many artists I admire, and to name few it is FLA, Fractured, the Prodigy and many others, from dark electro to drum’n’base.

07-How is your relationship with other electronic bands?
I try to stay in touch with some favourite bands, ask questions according sound design and equipment they use.

08- Can you give us a brief run-through of Whitar story so far?
As I told earlier, we enjoy working together, try something out. We made a couple of remarkable songs, and took part in a compilation.

09- How did you start to make Electro / Industrial / Experimental and what is Electro / Industrial / Experimental for you?
One day, I wanted to try out a music sequencer, as it is a powerful tool I use in composing tracks. I was listening to all genres of music, that later made an influence on my sound. I realized, that electronic music was all I wanted to do, with it’s aggressive, harsh appearance, and industrial, EBM was right for me.

10-What did you guys do for a living before Whitar?
I’m a graphic, interior designer, a free artist so to say. I graduated 2 years ago, now I work and make noise at home). Right now, my friend Oleg is playing with me and works for a building company.

11- When did you form Whitar? What inspired you to make music together?
We formed last year as an experiment, now it is grown in a partnership.

12- What are your top ten favorite Electro / Industrial / Experimental Club Songs of all time? Who are you influenced by? What would you consider your favorite cd's?

It is a hard question, and I doubt to answer it right, but will try to name some albums, just can’t choose best songs)

Aesthetic Perfection – A violent emotion
Agonoize - Ultraviolent Six, 999
Battery Cage - A Young Person's Guide To Heartbreak
Fractured - Contami Nation, Only Human Remains
Die Sektor – To be fed upon
FGFC820 - Urban Audio Warfare, Law and Ordnance
Fix8Sed8 – Dormicum
FLA – Artificial soldier
Life Cried - Drawn And Quartered
The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land, Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned

13- What are the future plans for Whitar?
In future we’ll continue to master our skills, it’s the only important thing right now)

14- Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organizations?
No, we only composed a demo album, and now we try to write new songs for the forthcoming full release.

15-tell me about your demo?
The demo consists of my electronic tracks, a cover, and the tracks are all totally different from each other in sound, that is what I can say. The only first experiments, more or less)

16- By the way do you like my questions? tell me what you think about it! ;-)
I like your questions so far). But I find some really hard, especially in choosing best songs or writing about our views and tastes)

17- What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?
We want to bring something extraordinary in this genre, our drive, energy, dreams and fears. We just want to stay true to what we make, sharing losses and rise.

18- What’s the name of your band? where did the name come from? or what's the story behind the band name?
The name Whitar comes from a book of Slavonic myths, meaning a chariot of gods, which was a transport between people and cosmic paths.

19-If people don't know what you and your music are about, how would you describe Whitar?
I would describe our music as a blend of hard electronics and hardcore, metal sound, with fantasy, mythological influence.

20- omerta where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell me why this title, omerta Tell us a few words about the concept of this?
Omerta is supposed to name a close society, with people tighten together by the laws they formed, and government they could chose. I understand it as a blind faith and devotion to the leaders that guide their followers into demise and destruction. A death-trap for unconscious nations.

21- Some quick fire questions: gitar or synthesizer?
Synths

22-band or solo
Band

23-How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
We had no touring this year; hopefully we’ll get them with the album’s release)

24- What do you think of a modern Gothic and about Electro / Industrial / Experimental scene?
I think there’s much left to discover, not fearing to fall into a cliché. Elecrto music has endless opportunities.

25- What's your favourite track of yours?
Cursed Breed

26-What and who gets you excited about music today?
People, whom I could share thoughts, music I listen to, some inner beliefs

27- A hobby, a great part of my free time and just a favourite relaxation method)
hobby, a great part of my free time and just a favouA rite relaxation method

28- What was your best live experience so far?
It was a gig in our home town, and surely a great evening.

29- Please list the name, age, school, and respective instrument of each band member
I compose music already 3, 5 years, using a sequencer and a midi keyboard with virtual instruments. A friend of mine plays live, and has been playing 5 years already, mastering the guitar skills all the time. We both are 23 years old, much the same in character and tastes.

30-What are your views on the current state of this Electro / Industrial / Experimental scene in Oekraïne.in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
Electronic scene in Ukraine is on the mid level I guess, after Russia. Not many people are interested to create industrial type of music, aside of listening to it. The audience is quite high; but not so spread and bound as in Western Europe or USA.

31- you have very nice numbers` tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Well, I can’t write music all the time, it depends much on mood, and I’m always dissatisfied with the result). I sit, and start making melodies, and of curse the rhythmical part. Then, I take it to my guitarist where we recompose a song again) When I get a moment of inspiration, I can come with a song I find not so bad.

32-What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
I think I could describe it as breakcore, industrial metal music, with ambient and trance influences.

33-Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music has this made things easier for you?
In electronic music everything is up to you… You can be a drum player, or master base, work with sound synthesis or special effects. I find it great.

34-So what are their main influences as a band at the moment?
It’s hard to determine, maybe hardcore music. As for me, the best things I ever heard in electronica were old stars of industrial metal, Ministry, NIN, Revolter, Skinny Puppy

35-What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? tell me all about the Electro / Industrial / Experimental scene of Oekraïne?
I get inspiration mostly from anything, politics, war chronicles, sci fi novels… Such scene in Ukraine is totally lack in new sounding electronic bands, but we have a great assortment in metal music.

36-Do you think that people from the music press didn't expect you to grow up musically?
I don’t know for now, I haven’t spoken to someone from press.

37-what is the key to making music from Whitar and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
Just the willing to move on, experiment with sound design, involve new ideas.

38-How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth-Electro / Industrial / Experimental music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
There are institutions, which especially set to deal with copyright; it’s not a problem to make one. I think the scheme will stay the same for next years- demo, lable, copyright and gigs.

39-what was your childhood like?
Not much interesting, we were regular kids, and parents did the best they could for us

40- If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
I just want to imprint “Whitar” in auditoria’s minds

41- Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
Everything new I will post in Myspace, and I’m open to comments and opinions.

42-It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity,Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
And a pleasure is mine) No last words to say, I’m convinced that our music will talk for itself). Stay open to new horizons, choose what to stand for, and of course be honest to yourself, a realist.

43-and what is next on Oekraïne agenda?
A long winter and more depressive music)

44-How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
People can access our tracks on Myspace, or a Russian Facebook http://vkontakte.ru/club4461477  and please fell free to write us)

45-How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
It was really a jump, for both of us

46-How is the new line-up working out?
Still working on tracks, confronting reality and shaking grounds of music design)

47-What are you currently listening to on your MP3 player?
Actually, some light electronic or ambient music. I also prefer old school industrial, nothing impresses my more than mind grinding Bile, and the drive of Blind Passengers albums)

48-And, finally, what does the next twelve months hold for the band?
They still hold a mystery, but we’ll continue anyway)

49-Any last words?
I’d like to thank all the people that support us, and also all electro industrial people of Netherlands for the time and interest! Give me a link so I could post your magazine’s page in my web)
