Featuring [heartwire] Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl 22 december 2009 22:58
Thanks [heartwire] that you have found time to give answers to these questions,
HW - No problem, glad to be of help!
1- For the first question will be - do you know the netherland?
HW - I have never been to the netherlands, no, but I would love to soon, I have a few friends over there who I'd like to meet!
2- Do you follow the electronic music scene, do you have any other favourite bands?
HW - I do indeed follow the electronic music scene. I love bands that are doing something different with their music rather than sticking to a formula. My favourite artists in the industrial electronic scene are Die Sektor, Skinny Puppy, and Psyclon Nine. Outside of industrial electronics and across a broad panel of 'everything else' I'd have to say Genghis Tron (Electronic Progressive Sludge Metal), Panic DHH (Digital Hardcore Metal), Lamb (Lounge, Chillout stuff), and Virus Syndicate (Dubstep, Grime).
3- Greetings [heartwire] could you please shortly introduce our readers your music project [heartwire] Please fill also a biographical resume about how, when and where...give us a more background information?
HW - Heartwire was born in 09' by myself, as a PsyTrance influenced side project to my main industrial metal band 'CeDigest'. I everything you hear in the recordings is my own work, using Logic Pro and a bunch of plugins. I started it originally because I figured out how to make atmospheric music and wanted to do something danceable whilst still paying a lot of attention to the atmospheric side of the music.
4- How did you start to make Electro / Industrial / Psychedelic and what is Gothic for you?
HW - I started making this type of music for fun and realized it had good club play potential. Gothic for me is a fashion I would never consider being part of. I think it's been watered down by the companies selling it to the kids out there and now you have to pay ridiculous amounts of money for something you'll mentally grow out of in a few months.
5- What and who are some of your influences in Electro / Industrial / Psychedelic?
HW - I don't really have many influences for this kind of music. If pushed to answer, I'd say Headscan... But they're the only ones I can think of that make similar music!
6- What are your top ten favorite Electro / Industrial / Psychedelic Club Songs of all time? Who are you influenced by? What would you consider your favorite cd's?
HW - As I dont really go to clubs, I dont really have any! I don't like being in rooms with lots of people in them unless I'm in front of them playing music!
7- Do you have a favourite track and album?
HW - Favourite track and album EVER? Thats a really difficult one to pick. I go through phases where one week I will listen to Metal non-stop, then the next I will listen to IDM or something. If someone was to put every track I'd ever listened to on a compilation and told me to pick my favourite, I'd have to ask them to come back in 20 years and read whatevers on my last.fm!
8- So tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
HW - I was always surrounded by music as a child as my Mother is very passionate about it too. When I was 6 I was asked to join a church choir and I accepted. I learnt my music theory there and left when I was 10 because I renounced my faith and didn't want to sing music I didn't believe in. I then went through many different bands until I started to do it all myself with CeDigest. After 6 years of CeDigest I decided to try something new out, which happened to be heartwire! I also write Post-Metal with my band An Ivory Empire (www.myspace.com/anivoryempireuk)
9- By the way do you like my questions? tell me what you think about it! ;-)
HW - Dont worry bud, your questions are fine. This one was a little strange though!
10- What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?
HW - There is no real message for Heartwire... Its just immersive music I write when I'm not feeling setting up my guitar for. I hope it leaves people feeling energetic though.
11- What’s the name of your band? What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before?
HW - The band's name is simply something I thought sounded pretty cool. It was a play on the words 'Hard Wire'.
12- where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell us a few words about the concept of this?
HW - I actually have an album already finished. I have had label offers but I will release this album for free download firstly. There is no concept for the album, its just the first ten songs I've been 100% happy with in one package! It's trippy, sobering, emotional, despondent, fast, slow, and 57 mins long.
13- When's the new album coming out?
HW - Its done!
14-How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
HW - There is no tour. The UK wouldn't come out to see something like Heartwire so there is no point!
15- What do you think of a modern Gothic and about Electro / Industrial / Psychedelic scene?
HW - The industrial scene is full of people arguing constantly over nothing. It's like a pack of jackals fighting for the last scrap of meat. Everyone will come out injured and who ever wins still wont be full. A contest on who's got the biggest internet penis and who mostly likes music that would be green and smell of if it had a sell by date.
16- Our usual question - what is music for you?
HW - Everything.
17- What was your best live experience so far?
HW - Supporting Alec Empire with my other band CeDigest - Alec Empire is a massive influence on my music and me as a person, so it was a great honour to play before him and meet him.
18- Please list the name, age, school, and respective instrument of each band member
HW - its just myself for studio work. I am 19 and not currently studying. For live shows, we have Jake (Aether) who is also 19 and at university at the moment. He does stuff in ableton live that I dont understand...
19-What are your views on the current state of this Electro / Industrial / Psychedelic scene in Northwest United Kingdom.in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
HW - I feel it needs promotion more than anything else. Its a shame that the UK's charts are filled with generic electro shit and none of the good stuff is being heard.
20- you have very nice numbers`.............. tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
HW - Lyrics are always from the heart. I always write what I feel when I write lyrics. The song writing process is mostly about sound design, getting everything to sound right and layering lots of sounds on top of eachother to create a wall of sound.
21-What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
HW - I would call Heartwire something like 'psy body music' or something... PBM!! Haha!
22-Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music has this made things easier for you?
HW - Nope! Its harder because everyone is always surrounded by shit electronic music, so when you say 'I make electro' everyones reaction is either 'I hate electronic music, its gay!' or 'Is it like lady gaga coz she is like well fit mate.' A real shame.
23-So what are their main influences as a band at the moment?
HW - Pissing off the industrial scene!
24-What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? tell me all about the Electro / Industrial / Psychedelic scene of Northwest United Kingdom?
HW - The scene here is actually really good. We've got lots of bands from around the area and theyre all doing their thing well. Uberbyte, The Ladder, ESA, Prot0type, and a bunch of others all kicking ass. As I've said though, I dont really go out clubbing or anything so I dont see these guys as much as I'd like to.
25-Do you think that people from the music press didn't expect you to grow up musically?
HW - Nobody expects anyone to grow up in any fashion, and rightly so. Most people just... dont. We live in a world of Peter Pans!
26-what is the key to making music from [heartwire] and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
HW - Never underestimate the power of atmosphere. Most people are all about creating a track specifically for clubs. If I were to take out the drums and lead synth lines from Heartwire there would still be a song's worth of material. It'd just be called ambient instead.
27-How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth-Electro / Industrial / Psychedelic music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
HW - As I always say, downloading harms music in small scenes like this one. If you really respect your artists, BUY their albums. Lest theyre giving it away of course!
28-If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
HW - That Heartwire isn't meant to be controversial. I have other projects to break the mold with, Heartwire is a bit of fun and I dont expect everyone to like it!
29-Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
HW - There is the album I will be releasing as a free download, and I will have a Heartwire track on my label's compilation CD - check the label out @

30-It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity,Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
HW - Keep supporting and don't believe everything you hear, unless youre in a room playing my music.
31-and what is next on Northwest United Kingdom agenda?
HW - Gigs, lots of gigs!
