Featuring Sascha Lemon |from LPF12  Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl 17 november 2009

Thanks Sascha Lemon that you have found time to give answers to these questions,

1- For the first question will be - do you know the netherland? sascha could you please shortly introduce our readers your music project LPF12
Yes, of course I know the Netherlands, I've visited Groningen a few years ago where I shipped through the canals. Very friendly people there. I'd love to come back!
Well, LPF12 is a dark electro/industrial solo-project. Though I love collaborations a lot - expect some in the near future! My aim is to produce complex, harsh and melodic electronic music.

2-Greeting
I wanna thank all you people out there who have made my "comeback" a memorable experience. It's such a joy for me writing music for your ear and mind! Thanks a lot for your continuing support!!

3- Please fill also a biographical resume about how, when and where... LPF12 was founded in ..... give us a more background information
LPF12 was founded ... well, back in the early 90s as a solo-project. I always loved electro/industrial and felt I could do the same. In the following years I released 10 tapes on various tape-labels and participated on quite a few CD-compilations. In 1995 I decided to take a break - and now, 14 years later, it's about time for a comeback! Currently I'm working hard on a demo-cd.

4- How did you start to make
Well, I bought a synth and liked the sound. As time went by I bought another machine and another ... It was an experiment for me and my love for making complex music grew. So I decided to release my first tape. And from this point everything was clear...

5- What and who are some of your influences in Electro/Industrial?
Main influence was/is Dive, Mentallo & The Fixer, Bill Leeb & co., 242 of course. You know, all the heroes of electro/industrial. But also bands like Killing Joke, Curve, Placebo and Nine Inch Nails, of course. I don't try to copy - and I can't. But all these bands built my musical taste and orientation.

6- What are your top ten favorite Electro/Industrial Club Songs of all time?

My god ... Let's see ... In no particular order:
Skinny Puppy: Smothered Hope
Skinny Puppy: Assimilate
FLA: Mindphaser
Noise Unit: Alle Gegen Alle
Leatherstrip: Strap Me Down
242: Headhunter
Ministry: Just One Fix
Mentallo & The Fixer: Legion Of Lepers
DIVE: There's No Hope
Nine Inch Nails: March Of The Pigs

7- Tell one secret about LPF12 that you have never told to anyone?
A secret ... I play all my stuff on a Commodore C64 ... ;)

8- So tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
Well, I'm not yet 40, a husband, a father of two lovely kids, I work, I play, I love electronic music as well as orchestral moviescores. I love to write lyrics and novels. That's basically it ...

9- By the way do you like my questions? tell me what you think about it! ;-)
Of course I like your questions! Otherwise I wouldn't be here! ;) Nice of you that you want me to participate on your e-zine!

10- What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto
I have a motto, when I'm producing a track: You can always do more. My songs are about human behaviour and human relationships. I wanna show the world that all is possible - good and bad. But I'm sure all of you out there know already of what I'm speaking ...

11- What’s the name of your band? What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before?
Yes, I started as "Unveiling The Secret" and made synth-pop. But very soon I got bored and launched LPF12, whicht means: Low Pass Filter 12 dB.

12- where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell me about the title from your Demo? Tell us a few words about the concept of this?
No demo-title yet. I'm producing and collecting songs at the moment. Some of my older tapes where entitled "Enhance" or "Bacterial". That kind of stuff. Concept is and will always be: harsh intelligent electro/industrial.

13- Are you a member of any music organizations?
No.

14-How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
No album yes, so no tour.

15- What do you think of a modern Electro/Industrial and about gothic scene?
I'm not an expert in terms of gothic. But I think they're all very nice and open-minded persons. I mean, the ones that I met were. I feel comfortable when I'm with them - as well as the electro-friends.
Modern electro sounds good, but often a little too futurepop-like. I don't like the usual 4/4-bassdrum - but that's only my taste. For anyone who likes it-fair enough! I miss the complex electro like M&TF and stuff. But there are a few great new acts like MC1R and colleagues who hit my taste of music.

16- Our usual question - what is music for you?
Music is expression, love, passion, anger, hate, violence, sadness ...

17- What was your best live experience so far?
Unfortunately I didn't play live yet. In the past I considered LPF12 as studio-project. But nowadays I'd love to play live.

18- Please list the name, age, school, and respective instrument of each band member
Sascha Lemon, all synth, sampling, fx, drum-machines, vox. I'm 33, studied.

19-What are your views on the current state of this electro scene in Germany .in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
My view is: Support newcomers as well as the established bands. There are so many undiscovered talents out there - listen to their musíc and help them getting heard everywhere! Creativity never dies - here and elsewhere.

20- you have very nice numbers`and many many more tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Thank you! Well it's always the same: I start with a drum-line, add a bassline ... and stop. From this point I build the song-structure which I will destroy and reconstruct and so on. I add more synth, samples and so on. I write my lyrics as soon as the structure is done. Voice comes in always at last. Afterwards mixing, mastering - and posting on myspace. ;)

21-What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
I still think I belong to the dark electro/industrial-scene. Prove me wrong! ;)

22-What do you do to chill out?
Sleepíng aside, reading books, listening to music ... But there's not enough time for that.

23-So what are their main influences as a band at the moment?
So many influences - but mainly old school electro.

24-What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? tell me all about the Electro/Industrialscene of Germany ?
I discovered a lot of unsigned bands on myspace and stuff. Bands like MC1R or Deci?her are my favourites.

25-Do you think that people from the music press didn't expect you to grow up musically?
Press-work will increase in the future, I hope. :) But in the 90s I had loads of very nice contacts to crewzine, alien mag and side-line. They all supported me and I hope the media in 2009/2010 will discover my music as well ...

26-what is the key to making music from LPF12 and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
What inspires me the most is the endless opportunities you have with modern electronic gear. You have the ability to create very good tracks, it's on you to do so. So, I'm trying to do the best I can with my machines and that keeps me inspired.

27-How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth-Electro/Industrial music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
Unfortunately I think cd-sales will decrease, download is the future. There has to be found an appropriate way to benefit the artist without giving newcomers the chance to develop their musical output for the prople.

28-If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
Electro/Industrial and what is gothic for you? sascha that you have found time to give answers to these questions One thing they need to know ... My aim is to surprise my listeners with every new track I make.

29-Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
Well, I'm compiling the demo-CD at the moment. I hope that some label wants to release my music-despite the music-crisis ... I hope that I will appear on CD-compilations again. I want to release a retrospective of my work in the 90s. And I'd love to do more collaborations in the future.

30-It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity,Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
My pleasure, my friend! To the fans: Thanx again for your support and I hope you'll stay with me in the future. As I always say: There's more to come ...

31-and what is next on Germany agenda?
Let's see ... ;)
