Review...ARTIST: Social Construct...ALBUM:By Any Means Necessary
This four-song EP is quite a promising little debut, with contemporary harsh EBM sounds tempered by hints of old-school flavor. Opening track "Enemy Inside" starts off with an onslaught of pounding industrial beats and thickly distorted vocals, but unlike many artists in the genre, Social Construct sees fit to keep things sounding a bit crunchy instead of giving into the temptation of overly clean production values. It's a fitting aesthetic approach that works well with the band's anarchist message. As far as lyrics go, Social Construct is all about unabashed left-wing extremism one track is even entitled "Smash Capitalism" delivered so directly it makes Skinny Puppy's cut-up surrealism look like one of Bush's State of the Union addresses.
Social Construct's message can be summed up with the Denis Diderot quote employed in "No Gods No Masters": "Let us strangle the last king with the guts of the last priest." It's a throwback to the era of more politically inspired, punk-influenced industrial and a refreshing antidote to the meaningless abstractions of so many of today's EBM acts. Don't be mistaken, though; these tracks don't feel like a lecture. They might make you think, but they'll definitely make you dance.

Sewer System
Sewer System was founded in November 2006. On the one hand it is based on very atmospheric and otherwise also very noisy sounds with sometimes fast beats up to 220BPM.You can't really say Sewer System is industrial or something else. I think you can't compare this to similar famous projects. The sound is different and individual. It's a mixture of hardcore, techno, ebm, electro and drum and base elements combined with ambient sounds of deep, lost and old sewers : steel, sweat, water, damp, sluices, dirt, rust, large machines, you can associate with...It's a step in a new direction to unite the best elements of the classical techno/hardcore with the weird sound of ebm / industrial. These are related styles of music which belong together and shouldn't separate from each other anymore. The Sound of Sewer System deals with the question how we treat our nature and how our planet will look like in 50 years. We have created million tons of rubbish and exploited our planet to build great cities and create our surroundings. It´s called civilization, but it has also a very dark side.

STandART
STandART”Band members:Kalvis Kluburs, Harry Belsky, Vladislav Belsky, Juris Tipa.„STandART” was founded in 2002 in Latvian town Jelgava by Kalvis Kluburs. During the next years „STandART” experienced permanent member and musical dirrection changes, though it always was linked with unusual sources of sounds and video materials. The band became more stable in the end of 2003 when Juris Tipa – bass player from a very popular Latvian post-punk band „Pasaules Gaisma” („The Light Of The World”) and ex-member of band „Depo” (young band with some „Joy Division” style, played by John Peel). A little later Kalvis Kluburs joined also „Pasaules Gaisma” as a keyboardist and sound engineer. In next months after the release of „STandART” debut MCD „Long-Haul Trucker’s Dream” (in Latvian), brothers Vladislav and Harry Belsky became permanent members of the band, and „STandART” radically changed it’s sound, starting to use a lot of analogue synthesizers, rough guitars, metalic percussions.Since 2004 “STandART” performed regularly in different electronic music events in the clubs of Riga, took a part in Saving The Grey Dune action in Pavilosta and released it’s second MCD „The Great Absolution” (in Latvian). It also contained the first song in German.Year 2005 was spent in studio. One of the few concerts was played together with „The Ancient Gallery”. In the end of the year the 3rd MCD „Long-Haul Trucker’s Dream 2005” was released. It already featured all previous song versions in English and Latvian + one in German. The new video continued the succesful traditions of the first „Long-Haul Trucker’s Dream” and was very well recieved in Latvian and European videofestivals. It was also named as of the best Latvian alternative music videos in 2005 and released on a DVD compilation „The Best Of Latvia” by Latvian major label „MicRec”.Year 2006 was also spent in studio a lot, already without Juris Tipa, that left the band shortly before the release of the 3rd MCD. New line-up also gave some very succesful performaces at „De/Vision” concert afterparty and electronic music night in Liepaja. Kalvis Kluburs made a remix for well known German band „Camouflage”.In Autumn Juris Tipa returned to Latvia and re-joined „STandART”, and the band gave a concert together with Swedish act „Lowe”.In November band released it’s 4th MCD „Corrosion” and started a tour „Corrosion Tour” around the Baltic States. The tour ended with joining „Camouflage” on their „Relocated Tour” – playing at the Latvian afterparty and as a support act in Tallinn, Estonia. After the tour the band has reached an agreement to continue the work with producer Overflow, and is going back to studio to finish the album recordings.

SAM
2001 began the brothers Joel and Daniel as schlagzeuger and bassist their first musical going attempts in the most different projects. They always used up themselves the extremes of the music. Both used the time around itself to co-ordinate and the necessary Live and production experience to collect. 2003 experimented it for the first time with similar and digital sound producers, in order to leave to their emotions in form of electronic music free run. After a time of the style identification at the end of of 2004 under the project name "SAM" appeared their first official output with the title "demo Lition".SAM stands for "Synthetic Adrenaline Music" and is to express the feeling, if the body in extreme situations adrenalin pays and sets undreamt-of forces free. The name was starting from this time program.Based near Frankfurt, SAM (Synthetic Adrenaline Music) has achieved cult status in the industrial scene thanks to their self-produced "Demo Lition" 5-tracks ep (2004) and especially with their second output "24 Stunden" (24 hours),which developped into a major underground hit in alternative / industrial discos throughout the country. They finally found a home in Pro Noize, the Pro Noize-label from the ‚Dark Dimensions’ family of labels (Alice I ,Scanner) only 2 months ago.SAM promises to become another top act on Pro Noize (Noisuf-X, Xotox, Xebox) and on their debut they present 18 uncompromisingly hard industrial dancefloor pieces, that couldn’t be more diverse and different to what the scene has to offer usually! The tracks combine influences from industrial pioneering acts, such as Esplendor Geometrico with the sound of the 21st century of bands such as Combichrist,Xotox or Noisuf-X. An album like a punch in your face–not for the weak at heart!

Sodom’s Child
Sodom’s Child is a metal-industrial band formed in Caracas,Venezuela,in late 1999.The band is made up by Derek Van Der Hagën (vocalist),his musical identity ranges from the eclectic touch of the electronic dark music to the strength of heavy rock. The band’s name emerged from the similarities that derek saw between the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and the present world.Only the perspective for evaluating global behavior today has changed since then, they think. The name is also based on the antagonism between the personalities of the two ancestral cities and that of the children who once lived in them and represented the only glimpse of innocence in those places. In a way, this name also resembles the Chinese principles of Yin and Yang (coexistence of good and evil). The music of Sodom’s Child represents difference, it’s the very last musical halo of a void time, which lacks originality and massively repeats itself.Their Career Sodom’s Child has performed in several local TV shows and has been interviewed by a number of radio stations, TV channels and print media. The band has also taken part in several national festivals. The group’s first album, “The Birth,”will be launched next November in Venezuela, with their newest songs, including “When We Die,” the disk’s promotional single.Produced unsigned, the record is expected to see international promotion as well.Derek Van Der Hagën Singer and leader of the band, he was born on March 17th,1983,and started his singing career at the age of six as a soloist in a church choir. At 16,he created Sodom’s Child, and was its first guitarist. His singing talent then put him in front of the microphone. His versatility and natural ability to utter a sort of “electronic tremolo” have given him a place among the best vocalists in Venezuela. Besides,he is the author and composer of all the songs of the band.

STRAFBOMBER

STRAFBOMBER developed as project of "piranha" and "obscure" in September 2004. After we had electronic music since years the desire to produce, assumed these now finally shape. Actually our music history began at the beginning of the 90's with the purchase of a Amigas, later already followed still the hardware (Synthesizer ELKA EK22 and rack Quasimidi quasar). To this time we induced ourselves together in the so-called tracker scene (nearly tracker etc..) under the project name Technox & Quasar. After extremely long radio silence (one, the time passes) we have us now seriously and rather spontaneously in addition decided the project STRAFBOMBER to create. We did not commit ourselves 100% in music. That is, our music is a mixture of electronics, EBM, Industrial, Synthiepop and which gives it otherwise still for category of this direction. We are natural of our examples such as FRONT 242, Nitzer let us ebb, Skinny Puppy etc. strongly affected, since we already hear this music since beginning of the 80's. Momentarily we work on some Songs, these are then with "singing" to be also partly equipped. One may be thus strained. And the most beautiful in the end! It does not put behind a commercial thought, but we would like to make our music, which them want accessible to hear for everyone. For this reason also this web page developed. Here you find soon all STRAFBOMBER Songs in full length as Mp3 to the Download.

SKROL
The ensemble SKROL was formed in autumn 1995. It consisted composer and keyboard player Vladimír Hirsch, singer Martina Sanollová and Tom Saivon, who provides noise structures, lyrics and manages the band single-handed. Formation employing original principles of composition, with added depth of classical program influences. Their inspiration derives mainly from Slavic melodic and harmonic techniques, reflecting the pursuit of proper ethnical musical roots, i.e. also music, which is founded on these traditions. This direction of SKROL’s creativity aims rather at the modern form of classical music, both through the instrumentation and exploitation of sound possibilities (synthesisers or samplers working with various configurations of instruments of a classical symphony orchestra) and through its integration into ambient structures, characteristic for the contemporary post-industrial likeness of the world. The actual result of a model conceived as generally as this appears as the incorporation of a musical statement into an artificial space, which should incite an intense perception of fullness or emptiness of space, where the central theme takes place. SKROL attempts to attain an organic amalgam of its own alternative of classical music with the post-industrial cultural space and thereby create a new form, as a continuation of previous activities, called “integrated music” by Hirsch. Skrol is a project which doesn’t completely deny residues of rock principles. At least minimally, it is music paying respect to traditional song form.First version of this album (1995-6) SIMPLICITY OF HERESY is a suite of epic character, centred on the religious and seemingly obsolete theme of heresy, which nonetheless functions as a mere symbolic expanse for the central idea. All compositions are united here to tell the story of a man, whose originally pure idea, which eventually becomes subservient to selfish purposes, leads him on one hand to condemnation and an immoderate punishment, but also to deification by the masses, which do not revere the thesis, but only the martyr in wholly different circumstances. While making use to a great extent of unique synthesised sounds of string instruments, brass, classical organ, densely enhanced piano, drums and combinations of these, the atmosphere mentioned above serves here, contrary to other works by SKROL (with the exception only of Non-organique), only as a sort of hardly identifiable background. The conceptual affinity to model composers is evident in a few songs, but does not surpass the scope of respect. Severe militant rhythms enhance the relentless music, along with a basis of instrumental loops. Their obstinate character should serve as a counterpoint to the melodic themes developed upon them. These themes recur occasionally, in altered form, to their beginnings, as if in doubt over the expressed judgement. This principle is evident especially in the last composition Exsanguis, which should be expressing exhaustion, fatigue, uncertainty; disappointment by one’s self and an admission of a true motive. The album came out as a CD in August 1999 on the German label MDP Records. One of the excluded songs (Eternity Ltd.), was included on the compilation album THORAK, which came out on WAVS 203 in September 1998 in Duisburg under the name "Ewigkeit".Likewise the strictly conceptual INSOMNIA DEI, an album achieving, at least in outline, the strived for organic integration of instrumentation, harmonisation and composition principles on one hand with a raw, dense and destructive sound, in which everything is submerged, on the other. The album is, in Hirsch’s words, “a belly-full”, where intensity and structurality of the sound masses has the effect of overbrimming fullness. The principles of tonal richness typical for SKROL, developed with an obvious affinity to their inter-linking with typical forms of the Slavic modus, unite all seven compositions into one complex. The contrast between the aggressive substratum of the music and the melodies overlapping it, along with the emotionally contrasting characteristics of both vocals creates an impressive dialectic of statements in the sense of the eternal effervescence between idea and reality. The ensemble attains a similar effect through confrontations of various expressive characteristics within their own instrumentation. The ultimate idea of the project traditionally hosts the theme of permanent doubt on the road to eternity or ruin, as well as the materialisation of the fear of inevitable global annihilation due to the collapse of values. The full album first came out as a limited (100pcs) MC private edition, the songs Soaking, Movie Martyr, Insomnia and Dei irae came out as a 10´LP called MARTYRIA on the LOKI Foundation label in August 1998. The full CD came out twice: June 2001 by Chromozome Records (USA) and May 2003 again on the German MDP Records label. THE FALL VERIFIED is the final name of an assembly of remixes from the album ALL OF US WILL FALL AWAY, originally called DE(r) MARABU (Verifi)ED. It is a sort of “skrolified” version of this DER MARABU project. The compositions employ loops of rhythmically altered sequences from select parts of individual compositions, further processed by the authors in the spirit of contemporary projects, though with a bit hyperbolically. The remix was partially initiated by the disappointment in the studio adaptation of the original material, partially it was part of a bigger plan to similarly process most of the key production of DER MARABU, eventually limited only to the last album. The studio adaptation of the song Fall A Prey, which came out as part of a voluminous compilation on the Russian label AchtungBaby with the name Behind The Iron Curtain/Ten Years Of Madness (2000).The album DANCES AND MARCHES (the basic version dates from June 1997) can “boast” the longest deferment of studio adaptation. This project again has the character of a suite, yet not of epic principle. The dominant theme is one of abandonment of a socially unacceptable individual, who seeks the raison d’etre of his existence and of the world, where he is forced to live, its premises, theorems, their impeachment and yearning for catharsis. The compositions often emanate from a sort of gaping void, akin to an open chasm. Yet it is not a void in the proper sense of the word, since within we feel the presence of something beyond our rationality. It gives the impression of a broad respiring depth (the ambient musical layer), whose dark mouth is surrounded by human mass (instrumental bases), where truly specific, emotionally wrought faces surface from anonymity (the actual musical statement, vocals, non-invasive noise samples). The individual visions of the differing inclinations of SKROL’s individual members are projected here over a matrix of a unifying philosophical substratum of the ever-present existential theme. Be it Hirsh’s catholic model of expectations and fear of the unknowable, yet still indubitable mystical content of the abyss in the sense of salvation and damnation, or Sanoll’s pantheistic celebration of space, never claiming an answer or hope, as well as Saivon’s obstinate search for contiguity in graspable structures surrounding him – all this intensely stirs the stereotypes of thought and feeling. At the same time it condemns this music into the role of the uncomfortable, socially unacceptable artefact. This disqualification especially pertains to its presumed misinterpretation as a basically negative (since it is alarming) message, which it is not in the least. Typically, in some cases the compositions’ basic structure is the ostinata, the preference of uneven or incomplete rhythms is obvious. As a novelty, though only fractionally used, is Hirsch’s practical application of the musical parallel of the so-called fractal geometry; while still following the vocal thesis-antithesis principle, the dominant female vocal pole assumes a sometimes distinctly sorrowful melodic, sometimes non-verbal, transcendental aspect, and the most important instrument here, not by its predominance, but by its content, is the organ, whose sound is like a raised finger, as if in warning. Released album is remixed and remastered version by Vladimír Hirsch (2001).The album NEW LAWS / NEW ORDERS was originally planned as a project that would be the culmination of the themes and conception possibilities of integrated music within the ensemble. Here SKROL attempts to eclectically capitalise on all the forms used until now. The finalisation of the definite version has not been completed yet, due to doubts regarding the compactness of the project and its stylistic purity. That is why it remains partially in the phase of instrumental bases, and that it will probably be adapted to a short-footage album
Shadow Minds
Mike, born on 12th January 1973 in Schleswig, made as a singer (Darkwave to EBM/Experimental) his first musician experience in 1994 with the band "Blind God", in 1995 with "E-Inzide" and between 1995-1996 with "Distorted Reality". His largest success were two live entries as well as Reviews in the Refractor, New Style and Astan.Michael, born on 3rd November 1972 in Husum, and Timo, born on 22nd November 1974 also in Husum, discovered their interest in music quite early. They sat down approx. 18 years ago to their C16 and started first going attempts in things like computer music. They had more possibilities (Oktalyzer) of converting their ideas through the C64 followed by the Amiga 500. They developed themselves further up to today where the PC take the place of the Amigas. The whole story was a hobby - until Mike and Michael had on the M´era Luna Festival 2003 the idea of starting a project together. Shadow Minds was created on 9th September 2003. Michael composes and produces the music at the PC and Timo supports him in sound questions

Stochastic Theory
Stochastic Theory has been a long time in the making. ST mastermind Chuck Spencer has been a premiere Midwest electro/industrial/synth DJ for over half a decade and, like many behind the decks, had the urge to create his own sound, what he wanted to hear.Starting in the fall of 2001, with encouragement from local artists like Eric Oehler (Null Device), Ned Kirby and Kelly Shaffer (Stromkern), Scarymike, Kyle Gielow and William Stitch (Polymorphous Perverse), Chuck jumped in head first to the genre he loves best: synthpop, prolifically creating tracks and developing ST's unique sound.
Producing songs of lonliness, alienation and recovery, Chuck has delved into his own emotional troubles to spawn some of the most beautifully pained and vulnerable EBM-laden synthpop that the scene has heard in quite a while. While most of today's synth seems forced and passively insincere, listeners can easily relate with ST's peaks and valleys, emotional clarity and it's strangely therapeutic nature, vicariously both healing and opening the wounds again.
