This "interview" was conducted with Blood Shot Eyes on 02-Aug-2010 Thanks Blood Shot Eyes
1.
We are happy to get the chance to ask you a few questions For the first question will be Thanks Blood Shot Eyes that you have found time to give answers to these questions.
Thank YOU for the chance to be interviewed.
2.
From which country / town do you come from?
We were born in Naples and we grew up on the streets of the Naples suburbs, where life is quite difficult.
3.
Could you briefly summarize Blood Shot Eyes and what you guys are about?
We are two guys with the same passion for music.
4.
What noise do you make in Blood Shot Eyes?
EBM (Electronic Body Music) with some Street Punk Oi! noise.
5.
If you could play a show anywhere in the world where would it be?
We think this kind of music should be listened to and spread everywhere.
6.
What do you do when you're not partaking in band activities?
U-Men (lead vocalist) acts in porn movies to supplement his salary. ?
7.
Back to your roots, how did you first come to music?
U-Men: I started listening to EBM and to other similar noise in the early 90s (Front Line Assembly, Clock DVA, Front 242, D.A.F., Borghesia, A Split Second, Calva Y Nada, etc.). What’s more is that in the past I used to be an original skinhead listening to Oi! bands (The 4-Skins, Sham 69, The Business, Infa Riot, The Oppressed, etc.). That’s why the so-called Oi!BM, Anhalt/EBM impressed me so much.
WHIP: I was born many years later ? and my first experience with electronic music was quite different. It all started in the late 90s when I used to listen to Kraftwerk, Einsturzende Neubauten, Faust, Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, Test Dept., Nitzer Ebb etc. In 2000, I got closer to the real E.B.M. music. It drove me crazy, and from that point on, I couldn’t stop listening.
8.
If you weren't a musician what would you be?
We are not musicians. ?
9.
When did you form Blood Shot Eyes? What inspired you to make music together?
B.S.E. was born in the early 2009. The key elements of our band are our “student spirit”, our love for beer and the real value of friendship. This is what inspired us to make music together.
10.
Do you keep up with how the record has been selling? Is that really important to you?
For our music and way of thinking have no limits, our first album is in free download (nonprofit) and so available to everybody.
11.
Who is your favorite band at the moment?
As the list would be too long, let’s generally say OLD SCHOOL EBM.
12.
Is touring a pleasure or a necessary evil?
Evil?
13.
How did you come up with the name Blood Shot Eyes?
It has been a U-Men’s idea that came to his mind by chance. It was a sad, winter night and he was listening to “Blood Shot Eyes” by Dive ? We really like the strong feelings this name (Blood Shot Eyes) arouses.
14.
How did you come up with the title "A.C.A.B." (Blood Shot Eyes latest CD)?
We were talking about the thoughts we share. One of this is that we hate the police because they abuse their power. They support the corrupted political system of our country just to minimize their repressed instinct.
15.
All right. You guys toured heavily after "A.C.A.B." came out? How did the whole touring, to support that record, turn out?
We didn’t tour very much so far.Only few people here listen to EBM music. Moreover, music promoters don’t help us nor the EBM scene to grew up faster.
16.
What are your views on the current state of this EBM scene in Italy in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
As we’ve just said, EBM is still a young musical scene here in Italy. We brought up a crew
www.myspace.com/ebmalliancenaples which works as a music promoter. We also organize concerts with foreign EBM bands with this crew. We do our best to support this scene staying down to earth and always united.
17.
What new music inspires you when you are writing? tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Our lyrics talk about social problems. Above all and unfortunately, social discomfort is what inspires us. We live in a very cruel society. Naples is such a beautiful city but it also has to tackle different problems such as Camorra, drugs and corruption… In our lyrics, we scream out the rage and hate for the society we live in.
18.
How did you sell your CD’s/Audio Files? (Consignment? Live sales? My space, iTunes, Distributor?) Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music has this made things easier for you?
As we’ve said before, they’re all in free download.
19.
So what are your main influences as a band at the moment?
Anhalt/EBM.
20.
Do you see the Internet as a benefit for bands like Blood Shot Eyes? Does the growing possibility of someone downloading your material, rather than buying it, worry you?
Yes, we think Internet is a useful means for our band and it can help other bands too.
21.
What about all the big festivals? Summer Darkness in the Netherlands? Mera Luna in Germany and Wave Gothic Treffen in Germany and many more?
You forgot about the Familientreffen ? - our favourite festival. Summer Darkness and WGT are great events too.
22.
If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
Good question. Blood Shot Eyes are apolitical!!!!
23.
It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity, Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
Thank you very much indeed. What do we want to say to our fans? Well, keep on drinking, fucking, and fuck the law.
24.
Where would you like to see Blood Shot Eyes three years from now?
At the Familientreffen festival, it would be great.
25.
What's the band's favorite song to play live?
A.C.A.B. ?
26.
What was it like the first time you heard one of your songs on the radio ore internet ore clubs? who was the DJ that played your song?
Here in Naples lots of DJs play our songs and it’s a real pleasure for us to see people screaming out our lyrics.
