Featuring thanks martin from Dunkelwerk Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl 19 jul 2010 0:35

Hi martin, we are happy to get the chance to ask you a few questions For the first question will be Thanks martin that you have found time to give answers to these questions,How are you doing?
Fine. Nice summer.

Hello martin what noise do you make in Dunkelwerk?
Dunkelwerk is pure Endzeit Electro. Close to the sound of the 90s i guess.

do you know the netherland?
No, I never was there. You can find me in Denmark or Sweden sometimes.

For a lot of people, this is probably going to be their first full  introduction to Dunkelwerkso how about you tell us a little bit about how you guys know each other and how the band came together?
There is no band. Itīs only me. A one-man-army. Dunkelwerk is a 100% studio project. Itīs the result of my love for bands like :Wumpscut: or Leaether Strip.

Do you follow the electronic music Industrial / Electronica / Indie do you have any other favourite bands?
Back in the 90s i collected this kind of music but since some years i only check new releases of this scene from time to time. I hardly buy Cds by scene artists. I have a (legal!!!) musicflatrate from Napster.de so i can check out most stuff of the so called scene. My favourite bands are :Wumpscut:, The Retrosic and old Leaether Strip stuff. In Strict Confidence is also a sensation. Overall iīm more into Dance and Chill Out music at the moment.

How is your relationship with other electronic bands?
There are no relationships at all. I donīt have enough time and energy to work with other artists. Dunkelwerk is my hobby, nothing more. I donīt visit scene clubs or parties. So iīm far away from the scene life and other bands as it seems.

Can you give us a brief run-through of Dunkelwerk story so far?
Firts album TROOPS in 2005. Very good reactions and some heavy negative feedbacks because of the war theme. 2009 second album HOELLENBRUT. Stepping back from the war theme to a more horror-like topic. Both albums reached position 5 in the DAC. Dunkelwerk is a small project so no big sensations. It works nice in itīs way.

What would you consider your favorite cd's?
:Wumpscut: - Bunkertor 7, The Retrosic - God Of Hell. Those both would be my choice if i had to leave planet earth.

What are the future plans for Dunkelwerk?
Maybe a third album.

What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?
Moments of total defeat. Moments of loss and misery. Endzeit entertainment. Movie-like music. Telling dark stories.

What’s the name of your band? where did the name come from? or what's the story behind the band name?
Dunkelwerk could be translated to Dark Factory. Fits perfect. A very old german word.

If people don't know what you and your music are about, how would you describe Dunkelwerk?
Dark dance music with heavy beats, some distortion and a love for melodies.

Troops" 2CD where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell me why this title,"Höllenbrut + Nightbreeders" 2CD Tell us a few words about the concept of this?
TROOPS is dealing with the 1. and 2. world war. If you ask me there is no other dance cd which is dealing with such a difficult topic in a serious way. Itīs much more than some war samples for the masses.HÖLLENBRUT is Endzeit as you know it. Beasts, Vampires and Wolves. Not as serious as TROOPS is but always offering something more than only music. Dark tales.

How do you feel to hold the finished CD in your hands?
Itīs a good feeling. Unfortunatly the market is close to be dead. Who cares?

How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
No tour, no live performances. Dunkelwerk is running without big promotion. No one knows why but it works this way.

What do you think of a modern Gothic and about Industrial Electronica Indie scene?
I donīt know. I donīt get this Hellectro or Cyberavegothic style at all.Maybe iīm a little bit too old. Itīs hard to find good Endzeit Electro. All the rest is not realy interesting for me.

What's your favourite track of yours?
Sternensoldat is a masterpiece. I still donīt know how i was able to compose it.

What and who gets you excited about music today?
Good beats and melodies. In the end itīs the melody which rules this world. The musicstyle itself is not important.

Our usual question - what is music for you?
A good way to waste my rare sparetime. A carrier for emotions, dreams
and tales.

What was your best live experience so far?
Dunkelwerk will never play live.

you have very nice numbers` tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Find a melody, loop it. Find a beat. If you have this you can start the hard way to finish a song.

What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
:Wumpscut: influenced me for sure. Dance, Techno and Trance are also important. Genre? Endzeit!

Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music has this made things easier for you?
The music market for indie bands is dead. There are 5 or 7 bands which sell enough cds to be called "professionals". Most people donīt know the sale rates. Most think that being in a scene mag means something. The so called electro/industrial scene is small, very small. If you ask me this whole scene only exists because a few people decided to invest time, money and love in it. Moneywise itīs dead since some years.

How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth-Industrial / Electronica / Indie music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
Legal MP3 downloads become more and more important. Dunkelwerk can be found in most legal MP3 stores. CD sale rates are dying on and on. MP3 sales are slowly growing. Wait some more time and you will see that most bands will release MP3 albums without releasing CD albums.

If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
Dunkelwerk offers more than only music. We create dark tales.

It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity,Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
Thanks to all who buy CDs or MP3s and who understood that music canīt be produced without any money.

How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?

Any last words?
Thanks for the interview!
