Featuring  Otto from Defecto Nagrobek | Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 01-aug 2009

Thanks Otto that you have found time to give answers to these questions,For the first question will be - do you know the netherlands
Yes, I’m there at least once a year. Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities in Europe.

Greetings Otto could you please shortly introduce our readers your music project Defecto Nagrobek?
Defecto Nagrobek is a project about poetry and love. It has a clear inspiration from the early 80-s with heroes such as DAF and FAD GADGET. It is very melodic and simple music but quite often live percussion such as old rusty beds, metal trays and kitchen utilities in general.

Please fill also a biographical resume about how, when and where. Defecto Nagrobek.was founded in ..... give us a more background information?
It is hard to give an exact year for the foundation since the project evolved throughout many other projects but the first release “travelling beyond” was 1995 .

How did you start to make EBM and what is music for you ?
EBM or not but the sound comes naturally from what you have listened to through the years. The music interest has been there from an early start and I just make music I want to listen to myself—Body. Music is a necessary part of me and my life almost as vital as breathing. I currently spend about 6-8 hrs a week for production.

What and who are some of your influences in EBM
DAF, Nitzer Ebb (Not EBM: Skinny Puppy, Fad Gadget, Gary Numan)

What are your top ten favorite EBM Club Songs of all time?
Depends on my mood, but Let you body learn, let beuty loose and verschvende deine jugend is a couple of important ones.

Tell one secret about Defecto Nagrobek.that you have never told to anyone?
Defecto has nothing to do with “defect”.

so tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
I rarely program. I “play” all music. Lately I have become lazy and uses a lot of soft synths. I find inspiration in everyday sounds and noises, a passing car, bird song and wind can easily set of some new strange melodies. However, I am at the same time extremely disciplined to be able to cope with all projects. Most of my music I do at regular times in the week.

By the way do you like my questions? ;-)
K ;)

Tell me about Rob from Guerrilla?
Fantastic friend and partner. A cautious man with an enormous heart and a great resource for the EBM scene.

What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?
Things are not always what they seems. You need to listen to the lyrics and not only the aggressive grunting. I want people to feel happy and wanna dance.

I know the first question is always boring but could you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about the stuff that you do?
I am Otto and I make music.

What’s the name of your band? What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before?
The name does not have a meaning, or at least not an intended one;).

When you start to record a new album, is all the writing done or does it continue in the studio?
It continues in the studio… but only the procucing part, together with Clark Nova.

and about deaf nag where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell me why this title "EP 2004 "? Tell us a few words about the concept of this EP?
Well, Deaf Nag was a more pop-influenced project where some of the “left-over” from Defecto was used. It is more focused on melodies and dance and lyrics are about everyday situations (always in English). It will probably never be any more release from this constellation. The “EP 2004” was an attempt to get som interest in the project but there was none…

and about Electric Tremor Dessau?
I have not been involved as a member of Defecto but it worked out well when we played with Guerrilla at their festival in Sandersleben.

Do you have a record label? so tell me about te labels?
No label. I use Mechanikk to release demos and to sell demos. It is the umbrella “organization” for my projects.

you are member of any music projecten Guerrilla". Deaf Nag,The Abluna Project,Vulgata tell me more about this
Guerrilla and Defecto is in focus. The rest is on hold. Def Nag will never happen again.

Life and love.

How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of EBM ,goth-industrial music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
People need to pay artists for what they do. It will be hard otherwise. People need to become more loyal to the bands and the band need o drop the prices on downloads.
