I was looking forward to this new God Module album for a long time. Although I liked their debut Artificial, I became an actual fan when they made ‘Empath’. That album was so much better and I hoped that the guys (and girl) would continue that process. When the new mini CD came out (‘Victims Among Friends’) it became clear to me that they really had improved a lot! The song Lucid on the Machineries of Joy Vol. 3 sampler made me really anxious. I really had to have that album!
Fortunately the album was exactly what I hoped for. It still is the rough God Module sound but it’s more easy listening than bands like Hocico and Suicide Commando. It’s true, the album has a bit of 80’s influences, but the strongest point of the album is the relatively simple synthesizer sound. The make the songs really catchy and make them stick in your head. The choruses are also simple and sticky. Although the voices are really well distorted this CD gave me the urge to sing (or better: shout) along with Jasyn Bangert & Co.
The songs are really diverse without losing the good old God Module sound. On ‘Empath’ God Module already used female vocals, but on ‘Viscera’ is a complete song that is sung by Courtney Bangert. It works out very nice and it’s something totally different. The contrast is even sharper because of the song after it. This song, Foreseen, is one of de best songs of the album.
Another great song is the cover of The Cure’s ‘A Night Like This’. The song isn’t a cover anymore… it’s more like a complete new song with the same lyrics as the original. It’s more aggressive and a lot faster. It’s a bit strange (I didn’t recognize it a first) but it works out very well.

What else can I say? It is a great album and if you like God Module, you certainly can appreciate this album. If you’re not familiar with the works of God Module: Go and get this album, it’s the best way to meet the music of this American (harsh) EBM act.
