This "interview" was conducted with CygnosiC on 26-Aug-2010 Thanks CygnosiC
Hi guys, we are happy to get the chance to ask you a few questions For the first question will be Thanks Georg that you have found time to give answers to these questions. How are you doing?
I am fine, thank you.
Hello Georg what noise do you make in CygnosiC?
Electronic sound sometimes aggressive and energetic but always filled with anthemic melodies.
How's the start of 2010 been for you thus far?
Most productive, I should say. I started composing the second full length album of CygnosiC and have recently finished it.
Do you know the Netherlands?
Of course, in fact I had the chance to visit Netherlands recently.
For a lot of people, this is probably going to be their first full introduction to CygnosiC so how about you tell us a little bit about how you
guys know each other and how the band came together?
The band is essentially a one-man project with two additional live members when it comes to live appearances, Stav and Vincent. Both of them are close personal friends of mine as well as members of other bands in the industrial scene.
Do you follow the electronic music Electro / Industrial / Electronica; do you have any other favorite bands?
I try to keep up-to-date as I am a fan myself. I like many bands.
How is your relationship with other electronic bands?
Excellent.
Can you give us a brief run-through of CygnosiC story so far?
I created the project late in 2006. In 2007, I released the self-produced EP "In the lag of time" as an initial attempt, which was actually more like a demo for labels. In 2008, I signed with BLC Productions and thus, recordings took place for the release of the debut album entitled "A Deity in Pain" in 2009. In 2010, I composed and recorded the next full length album which I recently finished.
When did you form CygnosiC? What inspired you to make music together?
As I mentioned above, late in 2006.
What are your top ten favorite Electro / Industrial / Electronica Club Songs of all time? Who are you influenced by?
There are many songs that I consider personal favorites as well as groundbreaking for the scene in general and each for a different set of reasons. Therefore, I find it kind of difficult right now to decide which ones to exclude.
What would you consider your favorite cds?
The same rule, regarding my favorite songs, would apply here. I would not do justice to many of them by stating just a few.
What are the future plans for CygnosiC?
My immediate plans are to release the new album and make some live appearances to introduce the new material to the audience. Whatever else comes in the process is most welcome.
What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?
Music is by all means a form of art and art, if displayed in a proper manner, is not only the product of inspiration but also a means of it. I don't like mottos.
What's the name of your band? Where did the name come from? or what's the story behind the band name?
The original name was Psygnosis which in free translation means "knowledge of the soul". That was the starting point. Yet, soon I realized that I had to change it due to copyright reasons, so after careful consideration I decided to modify it in its present form instead of changing it completely.
If people don't know what you and your music are about, how would you describe CygnosiC?
According to me, CygnosiC has a kind of old-school composition mentality of the genre which is coupled with modern sound production and instruments. I feel though that I am not the proper person to describe it in a most objective manner, since I am the composer.
"A Deity in Pain" where did the concept come from? And what's planned now that your album is finished? Or anything else you're working on? Tell me why this title, A Deity in Pain Tell us a few words about the concept of this?
The title and the artwork portray an externally beautiful creature that despite its beauty, in its true form inside, is ugly and repulsive. However in general, most of the songs in the album have their separate story and concept. As far as the new album is concerned, I am planning to release it soon, hopefully. I haven't decided on its title yet, however all the rest have reached their final form.
How is your relationship with the fans like? Is it nice to meet fans or have you also problems with intrusive hysterical female and male admirers?
I always find it most reviving when people express their enthusiasm about my work. It is, in my personal view, the most authentic and reliable feedback an artist could actually get; I have never encountered an intrusive admirer though.
How do you feel to hold the finished cd in your hands?
Fulfilled.
How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
First thing's first. Primarily, I am required to release the album. I have not planned a structured promotional tour since it is rather premature. I have, however, planned a few sparse live appearances.
What do you think of a modern Gothic and about Electro / Industrial / Electronica scene?
Its fairly evolving as every scene does.
What's your favorite track of yours?
"As we approach the end" and "Realize", both included in the upcoming album.
What and who gets you excited about music today?
I truly enjoy listening to those bands that are able to produce music that is original and outside the genre's clichés.
Our usual question - what is music for you?
Music is a form for expression and communication.
What was your best live experience so far?
Each live appearance is unique to me for different reasons no matter the place. I hope I haven't seen its peek experience yet.
What are your views on the current state of this Electro / Industrial / Electronica scene in Greece in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
Things are really nice here concerning this matter. We have quite a few industrial/Electro/Dark clubs in every major city that residentially play this kind of music genre, something uncommon for other countries, excluding perhaps Germany. Also, we have several bands that represent the scene; I will mention some of the signed bands here, Siva Six, Iambia, Preemptive Strike 0.1 as well as others. Also Technolorgy and Hydra Division V even though unsigned, are very promising. I strongly recommend checking them out.
You have very nice numbers` tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Music composition does not follow a strict set of rules or methods. Most of the work takes place in my studio. Once the tracks have reached their best possible form, I further process them in Lunatech Sounds Production & Recording studios located in Olympus mount, which are specialized in this kind of music, until we reach the final result.
What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
I consider my music as a fusion of contemporary electro-industrial sound created with a kind of old-school composition mentality of the genre.
Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music has this made things easier for you?
Perhaps it does offer additional exposure. Yet, the fact remains that you cannot force a person who doesn't like this kind of music to listen to it.
So what are your main influences as a band at the moment?
I never thought about it.
What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? Tell me all about the Electro / Industrial / Electronica scene of Greece?
Inspiration comes from all sorts of various sources. Our senses can potentially act as receptors of external stimuli that provoke or fuel inspiration. Then you just write it down and make some music.
Do you think that people from the music press didn't expect you to grow up musically?
I never had an album review or critique that indicated such expectations. Thankfully, CygnosiC received a rather warm welcome from the music press.
What is the key to making music for CygnosiC and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
As mentioned earlier, music composition does not follow a strict set of rules or methods. Rather, the process can take numerous forms thus producing a diverse end result each time. Therefore, by definition, this process embodies variation, growth and evolution.
How do you see the future of download / Copyright in the area of Goth-Electro / Industrial / Electronica music? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind?
The future of the music industry as well as the future in general, is uncertain. The only thing certain for me is that I will continue to write music for as long as I can.
If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
My music, without a doubt. Everything else is of less importance.
Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here.
As mentioned earlier, the forthcoming release as well as quite a few live performances both within the Greek boarders as well as abroad.
It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity, Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
I would like to thank them for their ongoing support and appreciation throughout these years.
And what is next on the Greek agenda?
Live performances; my aim is to introduce the new material to the audience but also engross them with songs that are already familiar.
How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
The new material is indicative of a multifaceted advancement in all aspects concerned, from the initial music composition to the final steps of the recording and mastering process.
How is the new line-up working out?
I am extremely pleased.
And, finally, what does the next twelve months hold for the band?
Apart from the forthcoming release, a few live performances both within the Greek boarders as well as abroad. Additionally, I will concentrate on writing some news songs.
By the way do you like my questions? Tell me what you think about it! ;-)?
They were really nice actually; nevertheless since they were quite a few, I had to answer them the sort way to avoid the possibility of being tiring to the reader.
Any last words? Thanks a lot for your answers! We wish you furthermore great success and a lot of fun with your live-shows.
Thank you for the interview and your kind words. I hope we will meet out there somewhere.
