This "interview" was conducted with Tyler_X from voice_of_vision on 26-Aug-2010 Thanks Tyler_X
We are happy to get the chance to ask you a few questions For the first question will be Thanks Tyler_X that you have found time to give answers to these questions,
From which country / town do you come from?
//// voice_of_vision originates from New England, USA
Could you briefly summarize Voice of Vision and what you guys are about?
//// Through combining elements of industrial & surrealist methodology,voice_of_vision brings listeners into an ear-assaulting,post-apocalyptic, paranormal atmosphere... Speaking out against cyclic social injustice, exploring the metaphysical, and questioning the duality and integration of humanity & technology.voice_of_vision is a conduit of transcommunication... a quest through existence.
Tyler_X what noise do you make in Voice of Vision?
//// I am the primary creative force behind the project... everything from the synths, sequencing & programming to vocals, lyrics, concept and visual art.
How's the start of 2010 been for you thus far?
//// I would describe 2010 as the year of completion... Everything is finally coming together after so many years of creation & refinement...I am proud to say that all five releases are now finished and available at Radio-Active-Music.com.
If people don't know what your music is about... where have they been!? How would you describe voice_of_vision?
//// paranormal... cybernetic... a haunting yet beautiful nightmare.
When did you form Voice of Vision? What inspired you to make the music?
//// I started voice_of_vision as an experimental art project while attending college in 2004. It was to be the auditory counterpart of a collection of visual art I was creating at the time, entitled: The PsyMortis Exhibition (later presented by Cyber-Thriller Studios in 2006). voice_of_vision eventually evolved into a bigger project of its own, sparking the interest of fellow musicians, colleagues in the art community and various listeners... Ultimately it spawned a new dimension to my expression... a way to vent unrelenting bleeding passion for art in music.
How did you come up with the name Voice of Vision?
////the name intends to express: the voice of a vision... a conduit of transcommunication.
How did you come up with the title "transcommunication" (Voice of Vision latest EP)
//// Tanscommunication is a parapsychology term relating to paranormal activity expressed through electronic devices.
How do you feel to hold the finished cd in your hands?
////Beyond words: the triumph of my legacy.
What are you currently listening to on your mp3 player? What artists have you been listening to these days?
//// I have a lot of respect for Front Line Assembly and Nine Inch Nails.
Do you spend a lot of time on remixing other artists tracks or is it something you do when you have some time?
//// I've been so busy with getting the past five releases launched that I haven't had much time to work on re-mixing other artists.Though it is something that I may consider in the future.
Have you recorded any previous cd`s or posted any audio files on the Internet? what type of recording process did you use? who produced your recording?
//// Hahaha ... I was a poor college student when I first started voice_of_vision. I didn't have much money to fund the project... you might be surprised to find out I recorded almost all VOV tracks in my parents basement using some really cheap equipment... The thing is... is that I felt so compelled to create, that I didn't let it hold me back... I can truly say: I made something from nothing...voice_of_vision music can be heard at:
www.voiceofvision.com .
What are your views on the current state of this Electronica / electro-industrial, aggrotech, death metal, death pop, darkwave,
techno scene in United States. in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
//// Right now where I'm at, the New England area, it's really non-existent for the most part. Not many people are really going out to shows and there really isn't much support or even exposure over here. In this area most people don't even know what industrial music is... sadly. I'm sure it is quite the opposite over there in Europe.
How do you sell your CD's/Audio Files? (Consignment? Live sales? My space, iTunes,Distributor?)
Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music, has this made things easier for you?
//// Not really, if you mean by actually making money to fund a band.I feel the scene has been hit really hard (and the industry in general),
especially for artists of my generation.
Do you see the Internet as a benefit for bands like Voice of Vision? Does the growing possibility of someone downloading your
material, rather than buying it, worry you?
//// The Internet has helped a lot with exposure, especially where the fan base is scattered throughout the world. As far as downloading:at this point it's much easier & convenient to download the legal way... and you'll feel good knowing you're helping to keep the music alive by
supporting the band (not to mention that you won't be breaking the law). I hope the fans understand that by paying for downloads, of an
underground independent band, they are supporting the cause.
How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth-Electronica / electro-industrial, aggrotech, death metal, death pop, darkwave, techno music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind?
//// I say: Legally download it for a reasonable price. Paying ninety-nine U.S. cents for a song, is not that much to ask... a burger at a fast food joint costs five times that... Think of the artist and all it took to make the song... show some respect. In recent years it's been made relatively easy to download music the legal way through iTunes, SoundClick or other forms of digital distribution. By illegally downloading music of an unsigned, underground independent artist like myself, you are hurting the artist... and making it more difficult to make more music. I work a day job and I fund voice_of_vision 100% myself. It's expensive to keep a band running on your own. I've lost thousands of dollars on VOV... I'll be lucky if I break even... And let's be clear: I make music not for record sales, but because I love it. Though it is important to understand that if there are no funds to support the band, you can't keep the lights on... printing CDs, sound engineering/mastering & mixing, marketing, websites, music videos, live shows, live & studio equipment,personnel/staff, etc., are expensive. If the fans want to keep the music alive, show support by downloading the legal way. The funds made from sales goes back into the band so more music can be made for the fans. A system where things are taken and nothing is given in return,is a system that fails.
It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity.Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
/// I want to thank all the VOV fans for standing strong & believing for all these years.... Your admiration is received with great honor.
By the way do you like my questions? tell me what you think about it! ;-)?
/// These are truly fantastic questions... well done.
Thanks alot for your answers! We wish you furthermore great success
/// Thank you - it was a pleasure.
