Featuring PR / Project Rotten Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl Date:7 december 2009 18:53
Project Rotten - Nightmares (Violated by Ani)
Thanks PR that you have found time to give answers to these questions,
It’s always a pleasure to be able to answer a couple of questions and I hope you will like them.
1- For the first question will be - do you know the netherland? a interview Menschdefekt and now Project Rotten tell me about both band site`s?
Ah yes I do , but I’ve never been there but my two other bandmembers have been frequently. Well what can I say ? There is a huge difference between PR and MD we’re in the same genre but with different styles and influences.
2- Do you follow the electronic music scene, do you have any other favourite bands?
I try to follow it but it’s really hard to keep up to date with everything you know , it’s a pretty huge scene after all new bands poping up all the time. Of course , thought it changes a bit now and then. But right now I prefer listening to Nachtmahr,X-fusion and Mind in a box.
3- Greetings PR could you please shortly introduce our readers your music project Project Rotten Please fill also a biographical resume about how, when and where...give us a more background information? and tell me about Menschdefekt
Project Rotten started out as a solo project by myself (Fredrik) which was shortly afterwards joined by Jan of the band Tanaros sadly he isn’t with the band anymore but instead I have two brilliant artists with me Ani and X/209. Our music is a mix of harsh ebm and aggrotech and trance combined with horror theme movie samples and lyrics. We recently released our EP “Bleed you dry”. Menschdefekt is the other band I’m in together with Dominik R. It’s a very melodic harsh ebm band with a theme around corruption, destruction, greed. All things related to mankind so to speak. Our debut album is due next year and will be released by Infacted Recordings.
4- How did you start to make,Electro Industrial, Techno and what is Electro Industrial, Techno for you?
Well I’m not really sure cause I started out as a metal head who found the industrial music and then I started looking for more and more bands and then I thought “Hey why not try it myself” and well here we are a couple of years later. Electro music for me is music that make me want to party that makes me feel good.
5- What and who are some of your influences in EBM,Harsh EBM,Aggrotech and Trance?
It will probably sound very cliché but my influences are mainly wumpscut, suicide commando, dawn of ashes and grendel.
6- What are your top ten favorite EBM,Harsh EBM,Aggrotech and Trance Club Songs of all time? Who are you influenced by? What would you consider your favorite cd's?
Wow that’s a hard question , can’t really name 10 tracks since I can’t really think of that many right now. But I’ll namedrop a few. Grendel – Soilbleed, Combichrist – Electrohead, Grendel – Hate this, Suicide Commando – Bind torture and kill and Faderhead - TZDV
7- Do you have a favourite track and album?
No real fav track but a fav album Dawn of ashes – The Crypt injection
8- So tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
Well what can I say? I’m a 25 year old chef who loves to create music. I wouldn’t really call myself that musical, I just have a ear for hearing things but I have a hard time creating things besides vocals, lyrics and drumpatterns.
9- By the way do you like my questions? tell me what you think about it! ;-)
Sure they aren’t bad at all but 31 questions are a lot of questions.
10- What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?
I don’t really have a message to people , even thought we are a serious band I don’t really think that leaving a message or try do make a statement or anything is really necessary. We just strive to create club music and music we like. My motto is the more blood the better.
11- What’s the name of your band? What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before?
“Project Rotten” , I’m not really sure the name just came to my mind. No, it’s the original name of the band and it will always be the name for it. Otherwise I’ll create a new band instead hehe.
12- "Maschine made flesh" where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell me why this title, demo "Maschine made flesh" Tell us a few words about the concept of this?
I am a horror fanatic and I love horror movies and I thought the name suited the band perfect. Since we make electro music and the theme is horror based. Well “Machine made flesh” was our first official release and our first demo. It’s not a album at all its just a demo , we just released “Bleed you dry EP” and the album “Stripped from flesh” is going to be released next year.
13- When's the new album coming out?
Spring 2010 is all I can say right now
14-How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
Well I don’t really know , right now we are looking for gigs and we have a few ones not too far away but sadly I can’t confirm anything right now , we just have to wait and see.
15- What do you think of a modern EBM,Harsh EBM,Aggrotech and Trance and about EBM,Harsh EBM,Aggrotech and Trance scene?
Even thought a lot of bands sound the same and come from the same concept I really love the new EBM since I’m not a fan of the old 80s early 90s EBM at all. I like more melodic stuff and more aggressive music combined.
16- Our usual question - what is EBM,Harsh EBM,Aggrotech and Trance for you?
EBM is something monotone and boring. Harsh EBM and Aggrotech is more club oriented ,aggressive, melodic and danceable. And Trance is of course either chill or danceable.
17- What was your best live experience so far?
Depends on what you mean. Us live or bands I’ve seen live? We’ve only had one live gig so far.
18- Please list the name, age, school, and respective instrument of each band member
Fredrik, 25 – Vocals,Lyrics and Drumpatterns
X/209 , 18 – Synthesizers,FX etc
Ani , 19 - Synthesizers,FX etc
19-What are your views on the current state of this EBM,Harsh EBM,Aggrotech and Trance scene in Göteborg, Stockholm and Uppsala Zweden .in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
Well for me it would seem that the electroscene is kind of dead. Nothing new happens here and the scene isn’t as big as it used to be. Germany is a much better country for electro music as well as USA is starting to open its eyes to our music.
20- you have very nice numbers`.............. tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Well the first demo was a bit uneven in everything and when it comes to lyrics some of the tracks were based on horror movies and some were just copies of bands like dawn of ashes. You know trying to be evil and dark. This has of course changed throughout our releases. When we create it can either be that x/209 or Ani makes melodies and send them to me and I add drums and then I write lyrics or in some cases they do it all and I just write lyrics and records vocals for the track.
21-What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
Harsh EBM/Aggrotech or as we like to call it “Horror Electro”. We got many influences , Grendel,Suicide commando,Dawn of ashes,X-rx etc.
22-Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music has this made things easier for you?
Not really no , our music is still too aggressive and underground for the average person to like it sadly.
23-So what are their main influences as a band at the moment?
Not really sure actually
24-What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? tell me all about the EBM,Harsh EBM,Aggrotech and Trance scene of Göteborg, Stockholm and Uppsala Zweden ?
Anything that pops up in my mind really , doesn’t have to be anything in particular since I’m a creative soul. I just create and when I write it just comes flowing to me usually. Well the scene if you can even call it that consist of only a few small clubs and with no real live scene at all. It’s really sad actually, doesn’t seem like people want to see bands live anymore.
25-Do you think that people from the music press didn't expect you to grow up musically?
The question is , how many press people know us haha. Well actually Im not really sure , I didn’t expect us to change so drastically like we did. We have you hear now is so far away from what we did a few months ago. I didn’t think the response from people would be this good actually.
26-what is the key to making music from Project Rotten and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
The key for us is just to feel inspired and to wanting to create, we don’t have any boundries in what we do we just create what we feel like creating . The sound is very different from song to song even thought you can hear that it’s us. All things around inspires and gives you experience other bands, your own creativity etc
27-How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth-,Electro Industrial, EBM music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
Well piracy is something that can never be stopped or contained and of course its bad for us musicians who invest money in our music and which we can’t get back cause people want it for free but still in a way its promotion also. When “Machine made flesh” was uploaded to a Russian download site we had over 600 plays on myspace in one day. And that my friend isn’t bad for such a small and new act like us.
28-If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
We create the music we like and hope others will like also. Even if it’s not new in anyway or different it’s still good dance music so gives us a chance.
29-Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
Like I stated before , we got some upcoming gigs and the album will be released spring 2010. So far we have a few labels we’re talking to about releasing the album. T
30-It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity,Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
It’s been a pleasure for me too, thank you ! Stay tuned because our debut isn’t far away and we hope it will blow your mind and if not your ears hahah.
31-and what is next on Göteborg, Stockholm and Uppsala Zweden agenda?
Only time can tell..
32-thanks for your time! great work on the albums and good luck with everything.any How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
On our myspace you can download the latest EP for free and the demo “Machine made flesh” is circulating around the web
33-Were you asked to play or did you have to ask for a slot?
I have some good friends in Germany who are helping me arranging gigs for us as well as Greece. It’s a lot of hard work and hopefully it will pay of.
