Featuring :K: from Dawn of Ashes | Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 2 Feb 2009
Thanks Dawn of Ashes that you have found time to give answers to these questions,so tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical? Greetings Dawn of Ashes, first of some words to you and your music project. Would you like to fill in some biographical details of the finding of Dawn of Ashes
:K:> Hello, the bands updated BIO is located on the Dawn of Ashes MySpace offical profile but here is the information off the BIO section.
Every nightmare is painted by a vision that is so terrifying and disturbing that only the imagination of pure violence can give a new form to eternal damnation.Dawn of Ashes gave meaning to this in the year of 2001 by :K. Bathory:, the mastermind behind the sounds and visions of horror, hatred, and suffering. The name was created to reflect upon the birth of death and failure.
In 2005,Dawn of Ashes independently released their first demo entitled "Sacred Faver".This release caught the eyes and ears of the German label known as NoiTekk.Shortly after they were asked to sign and became members of the label. A few months after, the U.S. label known as COP International as well as Russian label, Gravitor, took notice to Dawn of Ashes and asked them to join them as well.
In September of 2006,their debut album entitled "In The Acts of Violence" was unleashed upon the world. The brutal debut captivated the dark hearts and minds of many. They grew a significant fan base which then set them on a path to success.
In October of 2007,they released their second full length album entitled, "The Crypt Injection. The album displayed much growth and transformation in their dark sound and substance.Along with the album,Dawn of Ashes also created a music video for their song "Torture Device",which set much anticipation for the album's long awaited release."The Crypt Injection" gathered more fans, more publicity, and more attention from the masses.
Since Dawn of Ashes was formed, they have made much transition in line-ups,and sound.Once again, the group has done so in adding other members and placing the element of live guitars and drums into the music.Going from the Industrial scene now entering the Metal scene. With this new line up and sound, the next installment from Dawn of Ashes will summon new sights and sounds among the world with more of a "Black/Melodic Death Metal" sound. It's now time for the band to enhance the brutality so be prepared for more to come,as the ashes will never rest upon the weak. The evil within this group will never die!
Tell one secret about yourself or the band that you have never told to anyone?
:K:> Well it's hard to disclose too many secrets about us because I fell that fans think we are mysterious under all the makeup. It's actually nice to know that Dawn of Ashes as a band is very cryptic in the way that we run things.I would rather have fans give there own observations on how we are behind the masks and dead flesh.Dawn of Ashes is one big mysterious secret and we like it that way.
how and why did you come about starting Dawn of Ashes? what else inspires you to create?
:K:> After coming out of being apart of the Metal/Hardcore industry and dealing with flakey individuals.I myself wanted to because in control of how my career is going to be handled without anyone ruining that.I did start liking the Industrial style of music and how your able to create music without a full band so I created Dawn of Ashes with an idea that this genre of music can become very aggressive and hateful. With my huge influence in Horror films and Metal I combinded those elements with dark eletronic music. After years of experimenting with this, the music and look became more vile and more abstract. Now I have decided to bring back the Metal side of things and the way that I use to work to make the new and more brutal side of Dawn of Ashes.Dawn of Ashes as a Melodic Death Metal band is going to be very intense and even more advanced than I can only imagine.
Ok tell me a few things about Dawn of Ashes How did you decide to form this project, give us a lil background information
:K:> Dawn of Ashes has always been the morbid imagination that is stuff in my head.I think of Dawn of Ashes as a paint brush to create a gallery of disfigured corpes in a musical format.Dawn of Ashes mean the birth of death or the end to all. It's funny cause randomly I was watching Terminator 2 and say the scene when the Nuclear war takes places and everyone is buring and quickly in my mind I create Dawn of Ashes so that was the first time I thought of that name.I basically decribed most of the information in the previous question.
Let's talk about your Dawn of Ashes independently released their first demo entitled "Sacred Faver".where did the concept come from?
:K:> Sacred fever is a very premature form of wait I was able to fully create with this band.I loved the idea of what the demo was about and it's good to go back and listen to the progession of how things are now but honestly it's not something i'm proud of. Sacred fever the name means a contaimination to anything that is holy which to me made the demo have a very dark vibe to it which was the one thing that I did like about the album. It had a very horrid edge to it so it did have its points that were someone good. It would be interesting to see what we can did with that Demo now.
tell me more about this label NoiTekk,COP International
:K:> Unfortunately, I do not want to answer this question.
What are your views on the current state of the electro scene in Verenigde Staten in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
:K:> To be perfectly honest,we gave up on the whole Dark electro/EBM scene and now are expanding our horizons. I think some bands in that specific genre have great potential but the scene seems to becoming more of the typical rave scene than anything that is dark anymore.I do hope alot of bands make it in that scene but for DOA,it's just not our cup of tea anymore. We as a band need something alittle bit more.I hope alot of the fans that are into electro will understand where we are coming from and hope that they will still listen to us but its either come with or stay where your at.I as a musician an very open minded with music so I wouldn't understand why certain fans wouldn't be open minded to the new change.
you have very nice album tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
:K:> Things are a bit different now that we are a six piece act. When it was only myself and Bahemoth,we work very fast and could create tracks withing a day now its a bit of a process but I like it more now that it's more challenging. We are now recording material in the same studio where acts such as As I lay dying, Winds of plage, Thrice and many other professional acts have recorded at so the quality is amazing. As far as lyrics goes, I write in a story type format with a very morbd types of words. My lyric creativity is to bring out the imagination of murder, post apocolyptic visions or to deface anything that makes me hate.I am a very hateful person that doesn't really like anyone and have no sympothy for others so I love to offend others with the way I write.Lately with the upcoming album "Genocide Chapters" most of my lyrics discuss about the end of humanity and the swarm of eternal damnation.Lyrics are a very good way to release the darkside of your brain.
What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? tell me all about the dark scene of Verenigde Staten?
:K:> Basically we are inspired by Horror and anything that is very morbid.Agression and anger is what drives the band to create material. That is how it has always been.musically now we are inspired by lots of Death and Black metal. Also horror film scores really have been very inspiring with the creativity of "Genocide Chapters".We still like to add that touch of ambient or electronic sounds but it does not dominate anymore.
What ideas, movements and personalities would you say were crucial for the definition and development of Dawn of Ashes as a creative entity?
:K:> It's pretty obvious on what we are about.I would take a good look at us and I think that will answer the question. We aren't your typical nice and friendly band.
If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
:K:> Well for starters there is talk about how Dawn of Ashes has "soldout".To clear this up,we never sold out we just are now doing what we want to do.bands need to progress with their career and this was the time we felt like we needed to do this.I do understand that specific industrial fans hate Metal but thats why there are other bands out there to listen to or even our old material. If this is selling out than we embrace it.
