Featuring TB and S| from No sleep Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 14 januari 2010
Thanks TB that you have found time to give answers to these questions,
1- For the first question will be - do you know the netherland?
In The 80s I Listened a lot to The Nits, the song In the Dutch mountains, great. When I studied Homeopathy I had I teacher from Netherlands. And you guys are living below water, in a country without mountains, risky.
2- Do you follow the electronic music scene, do you have any other favourite bands?
I´ve disconnected myself from the scene for about 10-15 years, except from listening to Skinny puppy. Since some year back I´ve dived back to take part in the scene again. There is truly some great music out there. Right now it´s Stockholm wrecking crew they are going to make it big, they are hard hitting and with great intelligent lyrics. Bodyfarm, Batch Id, Ondska, Astma and of course Sturm café. Lip Service and Psy`Avian are great.
3- Greetings TB could you please shortly introduce our readers your music project No sleep by the machine Please fill also a biographical resume about how, when and where...give us a more background information?
No sleep by the machine is our mixture of old bodymusic and the new wave. We work our way in to simplicity, both with music and thru the lyrics. We started in 2004
S. Nuzoid on the machines and me, TB, on voiceperformance and design, still going strong with that constellation. In 2008 our music started to take form in the way we do it now.We have had one liveperformance and 4 demosingles released in 2009.
4- How did you start to make Industrial / Experimental / Electro and what is Industrial / Experimental / Electro for you?
I had an Industrialproject called L.S.D in 1993, then late 2003 me and a friend formed Ravenhead, a dark danceelectro act, it ended in 1997. Mr.N. Have been playing since late 80´s, so that's our alternative.I grew up with the industrial scene, along with punk and metal. It still works for me.
5- What and who are some of your influences in Industrial / Experimental / Electro?
My biggest influence is without question Skinny Puppy. Early Belgian Bodymusic, Noise/industry from the 80´s like SPK and Neubauten.
The honesty in the 80´s scene, the true seeking and exploring in music and expressions is what it's all about, for me anyway. The search goes on.
6- What are your top ten favorite Industrial / Experimental / Electro Club Songs of all time? Who are you influenced by? What would you consider your favorite cd's?
Favorite songs, that's hard.Ode to groovey, Assimilate, VX gas attack and Hexonxonx by SP,The first release from Cat rapes dog and of course Hours and Hours by Klinik. The list could go on and on…
7- Do you have a favourite track and album?
All the puppy cds. Fields of the Nephilims, the Nephilim, and Theatre of tradgedy´s Velvet darkness they fear are great.
8- So tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
As said before:Started out with the industry project in 1993 named L.S.D, then Ravenhead with Ulf Söderberg from Sephieroth. Under 2006-2007 I were a part of an Artmusic band, Cellsam X, that was truly fun. Experimenting all the way and only improvisations, sounded like free blackmetaljazz.
9- By the way do you like my questions? tell me what you think about it! ;-)
They works for me!
10- What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?
Total freedom for everyone and everything. We people has such devastating ideas about ourselves, our kin and everything living, and dead for that matter. Free your mind and you can move any mountain, without drugs though, that's a shitty prison.
11- What's the name of your band? What's the origin of that name? Have you changed the band's name before?
At first we called ourselves Godseeds, but then the name was taken. No sleep by the machine has a lot of meanings, for me anyway. Big Brother is always watching, STAY AWAKE!!
12- where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell us a few words about the concept of this?
We are right now working on a split CD and live gigs with two other really great bands, Stockholm wrecking crew (SWC) and Batch Id, that's an honor. We have our first show the 13th of February. It will be great.
13- When's the new album coming out?
Hopefully we will release our debut in the beginning of fall 2010, that's the plan anyway.
15- What do you think of a modern Industrial / Experimental / Electro and about Industrial / Experimental / Electro scene?
So much is going on right now, and that is truly inspiring. I like SWC and their punk influenced EBM, I want to see more of that. And I want more bands to play live, not just play/singback.
16- Our usual question - what is Industrial / Experimental / Electro for you?
One way for search, finding and expressions.
17- What was your best live experience so far?
Our own performance, my first outdoor gig with Ravenhead, and the last one too.By other bands, Skinny Puppy in 1988, E. Neubauten in Arvika, and all shows with Entombed.
18- Please list the name, age, school, and respective instrument of each band member
S. Nutzoid all machines
TB, voiceperformance and design
19-What are your views on the current state of this Industrial / Experimental / Electro scene in Stockholms län Sweden .in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
In Stockholm it´s great, a lot of bands in as many directions. The scene could be bigger, but Sweden aint that large. The audience is dedicated and familiar.
20- How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
We start with jamming, or Mr. Nutzoid has made an idea, and we work from that. The lyrics are mostly written during the process. I usually make the total design of the track before Mr. N makes the mix and mastering.
21-What genre of music do you consider your work to be?
Electronic body, maybe. That's our influence, but it doesn't say that we make up for it. For us I believe it´s an experiment and creative process, which takes this expression.
22-Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music has this made things easier for you?
I think it was more open in the 80´s, I think the genre and the music industry is more elitist now than ever, there is just more stairs to climb this days.
23-So what are their main influences as a band at the moment?
Freedom for sure.I listen to almost everything that sounds good to my ear. Mr. N. is mostly listening to old electro and new wave, that's the mix.
24-What is currently inspiring your material as an artist?
Freedom!!! And always will be.
26-what is the key to making music from No sleep by the machine and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
The search in what this music is doing with us and what we are doing with it, It´s a relationship.
27-How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth-Industrial / Experimental / Electro music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
The best way for these scenes to grow and develop is to include other genres and make their ways in doors that are open for it. Be proactive in the market. And why not make a free listening site like Spotify, for just these genres.I think people like the authentic, the true and more people will go back in making their own music on records and such and more people will buy the hardware again. It's the music companies that's truly bad for download/copyright, they are so greedy. I think most people are honest and want to pay the musicians for their work they don't want to give most of their money to big companies.
28-If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
We have too many secrets.
29-Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
As before, a split cd with the great bands Stockholm wrecking crew and Batch Id, the tour with these bands and our upcoming debut in early fall. All in 2010, then the rest is open.I have a project together with Bodyfarm, and hopefully some tracks will be out on Myspace during this spring.
