Featuring Jab / blut reaktor | Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 14 Jan 2009
Thanks Jab that you have found time to give answers to these questions,so tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
And thank you for these questions.in a musical way,i like to keep the music interesting and having a lot of potential.and also i like to continue working on music even if i finish a record with one band or another.i like to keep the fire burning while it's lite.and also i feel that i evolve with each time i make a record or a song.that i upgrade myself for the better.
Tell one secret about yourself or the band that you have never told to anyone?
well i dont have no secrets within the band.but i can say that the first record i ever had was The Sign by Ace Of Base.yeah i know funny huh?
Greetings blut reaktor, first of some words to you and your music project. Would you like to fill in some biographical details of the finding of blut reaktor
well blut reaktor has started off as a side project for myself back late in 2008 (which is a couple of months ago). and we've came out with a instrumental soundtrack like Debut which is "In Limbo" back in November.and since then I've been in the works of another album. the biography of blut reaktor is still in progress.these are the only highlights that i have for now.
how and why did you come about starting blut reaktor? what else inspires you to create? blut reaktor was formed in....?
I started this project because i wanted to do music away from Mind wired shut. something that i can do on my own when ever i need to get away from working with other people.where i can do things on my own and where i can feel in control with the direction music wise.
what inspires me is just music itself.i really like to fact that music can be either a emotion at a moment in your life weather it's good or bad. or the fact that you can take idea from your wildest imagination into a concept of music.and i think that's what inspires me to make music especially for Blut Reaktor.
Ok tell me a few things about blut reaktor How did you decide to form this project, give us a lil background information
well i decided to form this project out of the blue while working on some tracks.the name itself came later on.i thought maybe i can do music on my own while working on mind wired shut.
Let's talk about your full album - debut album "In Limbo" where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? upcoming shows or anything else you're working on?
the concept of this album is a soundtrack for the mind.basically The story is with each person's view of the music. what came as a inspiration was classical music as well as scores.because i love how back then they didn't have to say how they feel but put there emotions through the music.and that's how In Limbo started as a inspiration music wise.
as for the next thing is another full length which is in the works.the ep is basically a holder for fans.most tracks are new and others are remixes by other groups.
How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
We are planing to play shows soon.im preparing rehersal sessions for the time being to get ready for the live shows.i got two other people who are willing to get out there and play some shows.
Can you give us some insight into the beginnings of blut reaktor a musical project? What's the history of blut reaktor? How did it initially come to be? can you give an introduction blut reaktor?
The beginning of blut reaktor is now. the music that im making is just the start of it.i feel that there will be more albums coming everyone's way in the up and coming years.that are more evolved, and are better every time.
Can you tell us a bit more about other group Mind Wired Shut?
MWS is a project that i started back in 2006 and it was a time were i was trying to make music again.and i thought that i couldn't do it myself so i got my vocalist Zeph to participate with this project as well.we actually made a minor hit with Hardcore Nation and has been played in several clubs inside and outside of the us.which is great. we got a single for hardcore nation coming out in a couple of weeks as for a ep still in the works.
is frontman from Cyborg Attack your friend?
Actually i never heard of the band.but thanks for telling me about them.im going to check this band out asap.has a cool name.
What are your views on the current state of the electro scene in Germany in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
I honestly think it has more of a impact there then in here in the us.because hardly any bands come here in new york to play shows now.it's rare to see bands live.and it sucks. sometimes i want to fly over there to see some live shows and a couple of festivals.and i think the clubs there are better then here.the last really good club that i went to that's no longer running is Albion/Batcave.and it was one time that i went. and it was so great.there was like 3 rooms full of different music and it was just amazing.i would really want to go to germany.that's where to good industrial music is at.
you have very nice album "In Limbo" from 2008 tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Before i start any songs.i try to come up with a idea of how i want the album as a whole to sound like, and the concept behind it.then i start working on the songs.for this album "In Limbo", i tried to come with a concept of trying to come up with music scores for a soundtrack in my head.
Out of all of your albums, which album would you say is your favorite
album? Why?
I like all of what i make because i with each album.they're each an idea that i've made in that moment in time.i never put out music that i dont like myself.that's one of my own rules in music.
Do you agree with all these different types of music in the scene? Everything that has a beat and electro elements is EBM to most people. To your opinion how should an EBM band sound like and what should we expect from you in the EBM scene?
Honestly i think to each band they should sound different from each other.just basically have there own element to there music out of the box wise.i think music should be like that.because there's so many bands that sound the same.and i feel that
Can you tell us a bit more about this Their first release "In Limbo" ?
"In Limbo" has 3 different types of emotions. one is horror.i like to sometimes make creepy sounds and melodies that creeps you out.and the other is more dramatic like a bad situation that anyone can be in that really fits with the music.and last one is my up most fav.more action/scifi sound something that you'll hear in a car chase or in a fight scene.
What is currently inspiring your material as an artist?
well with this Pyro ep,it's basically Trance,Techno, and Industrial.idk what would be the inspiration for the album after this.
How did you come up with the name of your band, blut reaktor? what is the key to making music from blut reaktor? and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
The key to making music for blut reaktor is just having fun with it.and just expand ideas that come from the top of my head and into the music.just making a bigger world for each album as it goes along.
and what keeps me growing is the fact that there's so many things that you can do with music.it can go anywhere from here. It's like clay. you can morph it into anything.
What ideas, movements and personalities would you say were crucial for the definition and development of blut reaktor'as a creative entity?
what makes everything crucial about the project in a creative outlet is the fact of what makes me feel satisfied musically.what ever i make or what ever idea that comes to my head musically has to make me want to put it on a record.because as much as i like to please people but it has to please me first.
If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would
that be?
that were coming out with a free ep and expect some live shows soon.
Tell us a little bit more about blut reaktor'What do you do in your spare time?
What i do on my spare time musically towards the band,is just look for new music, listen to different bands, or even movies or video games to see what pops in my head.
What do you think of its intermingling with the electro, Darkwave and EBM scenes? while electro is your main musical pallet, what other music do you listen to?
I think the intermingling with all three is the electronic techno sound that starting to reclycle with each band.idk about the other two,but i know definatly ebm is sounds like it's repeating itself.well to me honestly.
and I listen to all sort of music.not just industrial. i like to check out different types of genre's to find more inspiration in the music.and also to make something different.but the only one that i honestly do no like so far is emo.idk but as much as i tried to sit down and listen to it,i just dont like it.
How long have you been in the music industry and how has it changed over time? Now I have to ask, what's the inspiration for the blut reaktor story?
I've been in the music scene since 2006 and i have learn a lot from then to now.and i think it has taught me a lot of things especially about the buisness itself.i think it has changed because people are no longer wanting physical releases.and everything has become more digital with ipods and mp3's.
Tell us a few words about the concept of this album.
well with this ep,there is no concept,it's just a free for all ep for kicks really.
How did you come up with the name blut reaktor What is its meaning?
I came up with a couple of names in english but i didnt want to have it in that pacific language.so at first i wanted to do it in Japanesse because i thought it would be cool.but then after that, i decided to try German. so one of the choices was Blood Reactor and when i saw the german way to say it.i thought it was that stood out the most for me. and it doesnt have a meaning behind the name.
Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
Well we are going to come out with a free single Ep called Pyro.it's going to have the main song pyro.with 5 other tracks, and 4 remixes including one that i made.and we will be playing shows.around summer or fall of this year.
Greetings blut reaktor, first of some words to you and your music project.Would you like to fill in some biographical details of the finding of blut reaktor
like i've said before is that the band was created in late 2008 and we've came out with our debut "In Limbo", and will be coming out with the "Pyro Ep" as well be doing shows.that's all that i have.
Can you tell us something about the beginnings of blut reaktor how and why did you begin to make music? Why various electronic styles? tell us about your unique style of music and who are your major influences? Where do you typically get your inspiration for numbers?
in general i started to make music because i thought it would be cool, and in time turned into a love. and to this day i still create music and try to evolve from what i did before.
The reason for the different styles is because i dont like to stay the same.i like to try something new and intresting and of course outside the box.and it makes me feel more as a artist for that.because for the fact that not only it makes things intresting for me and as well for the fans.but as well as makes things more challenging and it helps evolve the music itself to a better form of style.
idk how to describe my unique style.i honestly think it evolves during time and changes as it goes.one day i can be making a electro industrial album and the next i can be making something else.i think it evolves as time goes.
and like i've said my major influence is music,Video games, and movies.allways have a idea for something and put it into my music.
Are you working on any current or future projects?
Yes actually i am.have another solo project which is a different Genre from this.it's called The Color Violent.and it's more rock base with a 80's type of electronics elements to keep it different from my other two projects.
the pyro ep which is coming out Febuary 10th. and a couple of shows that we are currently planning.
as for mind wired shut, were coming out with the hardcore nation cdm this month, and will be coming out with a ep later this year.
On question about influences and inspirations about Germany? Are you currently working on or planning any new releases? What is the future for your music? were you living?
i honestly dont know as of right now.i do have some sort of idea of what i want to do but im not really pay mind to it right now.what i know is what im planning to do for now (which is the "pyro ep, and playing some shows). we'll know what comes next when it's time to go back to making more music.
