Featuring L.J. Scarzz | Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | Date:22 februari 2009 From: Kfactor
Thanks Kfactor that you have found time to give answers to these questions,so tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?
I thought not a musician. I am a maniac, thinking be musician. Computers, keyboards, synthesizers ... we mix.
Greetings Kfactor, first of some words to you and your music project. Would you like to fill in some biographical details of the finding of Kfactor
Tell one secret about yourself or the band that you have never told to anyone?
A secret? The human being is a secret. Talking about kFactor the secrets are the songs that I never show to anyone. Musical experiences, delirium, this stuff.
how and why did you come about starting Kfactor? what else inspires you to create?
I am a programmer, web programmer and webdesigner and was always close to computers and thought it would be easy to produce my music, my experiences.Initially I had many influences from Skinny Puppy, thinking up until now believed to be a band that I hear more. But other things are there, Vicera Drip, Interlace, and IC434.
tell me more about your demo tape"Let's talk about your Solo Live 1997 / Dark Reign 1998 and Stützen SieIhr Selbst 1998 ? and your Demo Cd "Strata Planet" 1999 ?
When I began composing bought some equipment and spent days locked in my bedroom, trying to produce something. And many things out, admit that the majority had no
quality. That was almost intentional. With the help of a DJ called Wendel Cescovic I did give way to the first demos.
Solo Live was recorder in a party. A reunion of friends on a Saturday night. Spoken words, techno, EBM, a trip.
Dark Reign was a trip to a dark world.Tried different things, and turned to heavier Darkwave. This work was fully edited in the computer. And it had a better quality.
Strata Planet is a compilation of some songs from other works,re-edited and remastered.
Die Änderung (Cd) 2001 ( Specials Remix by Plastic Noise Experience, Red Theatre (USA) e AoA) where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? upcoming shows or anything else you're working on? Tell us a few words about the concept of this album
Well,as the title says, was a change.I thought to keep the line EBM Old School only.I had contacts for remixs and was very interesting.
At the time I was living in the deep inside of Brazil, where I did not really play and where my professional life consumed me long. So no shows. In 2004 I returned to São Paulo, the third largest city in the world, made some small presentation.
But the trump card of the CD was remixs of great bands like Plastic Noise, it was a good release.
How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album? tell me more about this New release out on april 2009 ?
I'm in finalizing the work of bands and a concert scheduled in March and another in April.
Besides being in contact with big bands to remix. big surprises are coming!
In this album I am more dedicated to quality and working hard on each track. Good equipment and experienced after years. This album has production and engineering of my great friends, Anderson Arantes (Coma Frequency) and Inc (Body Work). It will be a really professional job.
What's the history of Kfactor? How did it initially come to be? can you give an introduction Kfactor?
the kFactor was the realization of my experiences of my musical influences and desires.
I regret not having much time to kFactor, I own a web development company and it takes me a long time.
But the year 2009 there is a new wave, after years with a very few presentations, low support for national bands. The Brazilian scene seems reborn and is very good.
I have to say that there are great bands in Brazil. And in big cities like São Paulo, the scene is strong and old. But there was a down time, without presentations without support. Past! We are very well now!
What are your views on the current state of the electro scene in Brazilië in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
Well, as I said earlier, the Brazilian scene went through bad times. Today we have large events like the events organized by Projeto Ferro Velho, Body Work Radio, Via Underground, Gotico SP, Passos Nortunos, Grupo Bella Noite and many others. Events in recent months with bands like Project Pitchfork, Plastic Noise Experience those things.
This gives the force bands. New bands appear and who had stopped come back.
We have great bands appear - Nahtaivel, Tatari Gami and others. And the big names like Cyberthreat, Aghast Views ... this way.
The same happens over here in Argentina, Chile, Peru ... the scene grows. There are many partnerships between the South American countries.
you have very nice numbers tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
My process of creation should not be different from other bands. The inspiration comes as magical and strange hours. This is good,is interesting.
The music I'm producing now, began in the middle of the night. I lost my sleep and got a good song! I awake and go to my little studio in my apartment.
The lyrics are the same. I live in a giant city, cars traffic, violence, noise and the infernal heat of the tropics. Everything is inspiration for writing.
Out of all of your albums, which album would you say is your favorite album? Why?
I have three references that I think I will be in life forever
Skinny Puppy - 12 Inch Anthology
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park
IC 434 - Dogondance
The three albums are the perfect blend between electronic music and dark environment. Dancing and dark at the same time. Perfect!
Do you agree with all these different types of music in the scene? Everything that has a beat and electro elements is EBM to most people. To your opinion how should an EBM band sound like and what should we expect from you in the EBM scene?
good question! I see today there are many names, and in fact many things are equal and get different names.
but I do not like the many styles, or names. I think that EBM should be root. I keep my line going. Old school EBM. And I think a good band should be. Keep one foot in the past on the roots of EBM, and other on new trends.
What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? tell me all about the dark scene of Brazilië?
Outside the bands I mentioned, Skinny Puppy, IC434 ... Life is a great inspiration, modern life is a source for our style.
Like I said, the Brazilian scene went through bad times. Today is strong and growing. We have great projects that promote festivals and exhibitions and partners throughout Latin America.
There are thousands Brazilians websites and blogs of scene and each day new fans of EBM / Industrial appear
How did you come up with the name of your band,Kfactor? and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
Simple, K for keyboard, or kill ... whatever ... I think is a good name for a EBM band. Something to remember machine and pain.
I love the EBM music and culture, then I guess that is my greatest reason for maintaining to keep my career
What ideas, movements and personalities would you say were crucial for the definition and development of Kfactor as a creative entity?
I am involved in a life totally technology, computers, programming, all this technology is mind ... is way.
All this is way for a new man, a better man. I criticize it in my lirics, evil man. The evil of man.
I do not have big names in the EBM scene. I think we get a bit of each person, every moment and try to make the best of it.
If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?
I try to do a dance song, strong and with ideas.
What do you do in your spare time?
:) I am a fan of tattoos, I have many tattoos, and when I have time I go to Magic Needles Studio, of my great friend Mauricio Giampà.
I try to do different things. Special dinner with my wife. I go to gym, I run, walk with the dog ... simple things of life.
What do you think of its intermingling with the electro, Darkwave and EBM scenes? while electro is your main musical pallet, what other music do you listen to?
I think add new things to EBM is important, since it does not take identity of EBM. Many bands do it and is fantastic.
Here in Brazil in the 80s had great bands influenced by post-punk and gothic. And I'm always listening to those things. They are very interesting and great source of inspiration.
How long have you been in the music industry and how has it changed over time? Now I have to ask, what's the inspiration for the Kfactor story?
I am involved with music since 1995. Making music and recently I'm involved with a Web Radio, called Body Work Radio - www. bodywork-radio. com. br (under construction) - and soon will be launching our own label.
Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
oh yeah!! I'm working on a new album, I admit that I have no name yet, any idea? :)
I'm finishing the album and I gotta get a new name soon. The presentations begin in March and I'm running with it.
How and why did you begin to make music? Why various electronic styles? tell us about your unique style of music and who are your major influences? Where do you typically get your inspiration for numbers?
I started when I won a new computer in 1994, tried to put out my experiences.
Always tried to follow the EBM / Industrial line only, but has not ... I have two side projects called InDreams (trance) and another called Alpha-Laut (techno-trance)
On question about influences and inspirations about Brazilië? Are you currently working on or planning any new releases? New release out on april 2009 " Are you working on any current or future projects? What is the future for your music?
I currently work in this new album, I plan to release in April.
I wanna make that point a new start for the kFactor, a more professional start. I'm already signed contract with BW Records, and this is great!
