Featuring Yone & Marco from Decoded Feedback | Interview by Ruud Dreessen aka ebm-industrial.nl | 21 januari 2010 15:29

1- For the first question will be - do you know the netherland?

Yone:  Yes, we have played in the Netherlands a couple of times.  What a great country!

Marco:  Yes very well! I've been many times in holidays and I have to say it's one of my favorite countries in Europe.

2- Do you follow the electronic music scene, do you have any other favourite  bands?

Yone:  Yes.  There are many bands that I like, but most of all Suicide Commando, Skinny Puppy, Leather Strip, Haujobb, Wumpscut, Covenant, Daft Punk, The Crystal Method, The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, etc...  Too many to list!

Marco:  I listen mainly to Rockabilly music  :)

3- Greetings Yone could you please shortly introduce our readers your music project Decoded Feedback Please fill also a biographical resume about how, when and where...give us a more background information?
Yone:  We met in an industrial club in Budapest, Hungary back in the 90s.  We both had an immense interest in industrial music, so we decided to start our own band.  We had seen so many industrial bands while living in Italy, so it really influenced us to create our own music.  The beginning of Decoded Feedback came naturally out of our love and passion for electronic music.

4- How did you start to make Electronica / Industrial and what is Electronica / Industrial for you?

Yone:  We started playing around just for fun.  We were living in Italy at the time and Marco was in another band, but the group was alternative rock.  We both loved industrial music, so we decided to create our own group for fun.  At first we didn't take it serious, but then we sent out our first demo to Side-Line Magazine and after a fantastic review, Hard Records Europe contacted us.  We got signed by Hard Records and put out our first CD "Overdosing" in late 1996.

For me, Electronia / Industrial is a perfect blend of both elements.  The harshness of Industrial expressed with the percision of electronic.

Marco: For me it's a way to express emotions, like for a painter his painting...

5- What and who are some of your influences in Electronica / Industrial?

Yone:  Definitely Leather Strip was/is a huge influence on us.  Also, life, conflict, and the world around us influences our music.

Marco:  Skinny Puppy, Front LineAssembly and Leather Strip/Klute.

6- What are your top ten favorite Electronica / Industrial Club Songs of all time? Who are you influenced by? What would you consider your favorite cd's?

Yone:  That is difficult because it changes.  But for me, "Adrenaline Rush"  Leather Strip, "Sacrilege" Mentallo and the Fixer, "Warlock" Skinny Puppy, "Hellraiser" Suicide Commando, "Stalker" Covenant, "Mother" Wumpscut, "Solid State Logic"  Haujobb, "Plasticity" Front Line Assembly, and "Alpha Omega" Project Pitchfork are always in the top 10.

Marco:  I don't really have a top 10, my taste in songs changes all the time.

7- Do you have a favourite track and album? tell me about this labels Hard Records.Zoth Ommog,Metropolis Records,German label, Bloodline.and Out of Line?
Yone:  All the labels we have dealt with are great.  Hard Records helped us start our music career, so we will never forget them :)  It was a real privilege to be on Zoth Ommog.  That was the biggest and most important label in Industrial music for many years.  Sorry to see that it is gone.  Out of Line is great.  Metropolis Records is an amazing label.  They treat their artists great and are upfront about everything.

8- So tell me a bit more about yourself, such as musical?

Yone:  I love many types of music, including classical.  I was classically trained at the conservatory and have always loved Beethoven, Bach and Mozart.  Classical music really inspires me.

As for other things, I love travelling, culture, and food.  Touring gives me the ability to also fullfil these passions.  I make sure to enjoy every country and city we travel to.  I want to absorb the history and culture.  And food is one of the best ways to learn about a culture!

9- By the way do you like my questions? tell me what you think about it! ;-)

Yone:  Cool :)

Marco:  Awesome questions.

10- What is the main idea, the message you want to leave to people who listens to you? What is your motto?

Yone:  I believe in living each day to its fullest and expressing life's pain through music.  I feel that we are lucky to be able to vent through our music.  All the world's problems, our own struggles, lost love, can be expressed through music.  You express it and you let it go.  I think it's a healthy way to deal with life.  So, I guess our motto could be to find a creative way to vent.

Marco:  Feel, live and use your brain.

11- What’s the name of your band? What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before?
Marco:  Decoded was an association to electronic music and Feedback to the harsh sound that a guitar or scrap metal can produce.

12- tell me about your self-titled demo tape where did the concept come from? and whats planned now that your album is finished? or anything else you're working on? Tell me why no title,Tell us a few words about the concept of this?

Yone:  Not really sure why we self-titled our demo tape.  I guess we couldn't come up with a name ;)

The new album is called "Aftermath".  This CD has been 4 years in the making.  It wasn't an easy process.  Lots of life problems got in the way of production, some serious problems.  But life happens and you learn from the struggles you have to live through.  You come out a better person and put all that pain into the production of music.  "Aftermath" is the perfect answer to "Shockwave" and "Combustion".  It shows our development through the years.

Marco:  In the past few years I experienced a drug and alcohol addiction that almost took my life...that's what caused the delay in releasing new material.  Now I have fully recovered and working on music literally saved my life.  Our inspiration and love for music will never die.

13- When's the new album coming out?
Yone:  It will be released on Tuesday, May 11th.

14-How is the current promotional tour going for supporting this album?
Yone:  We just started the promotion of it in New York by playing a new track from the CD.  We got a great response from the audience.  Everyone was dancing!  We will start promotion on the west coast in the US and Mexico in February, but the real premiere of the CD will be at Kinetik 3.0 Festival on May 14th in Montreal, Canada.  We will play a lot of new songs from "Aftermath" and have the CD for sale.

15- What do you think of a modern Electronica / Industrial and about Electronica / Industrial scene?

Yone:  I have to admit that I am not so happy about the current scene.  It seems that everyone is into very harsh style of industrial, which is good, but we have heard some bads things have been happening at some concerts like fans getting violent with other fans.  This isn't good.  This shouldn't be a violent scene at all.  Also, I find the shock value of harsh industrial wearing off and it all starts to sound the same.  I have a feeling the scene will turn to more melodic industrial soon because listening to very harsh music become monotonous after awhile.

Marco:  Not very exciting and very predictable.

16- Our usual question - what is Electronica / Industrial for you?
Yone:  It is the perfect blend of electronic music with the rawness of industrial.

17- What was your best live experience so far?

Yone:  That is hard to say.  There are so many.  But, for me, playing the Wave Gotik Treffen in 2003 in front of thousands of fans was mind blowing!  It was an incredible experience I will never forget.

Marco:  Every time I'm going on stage it's like the first time for me, and I feel it and live it like the best experience.

18- Please list the name, age, school, and respective instrument of each band member

Yone:  keyboards, sequences, arrangement, samples, lyrics, basses and drums

Marco: vox, lyrics, guitar, samples, sequences, arrangement, basses and drums

19-What are your views on the current state of this Electronica / Industrial scene in Toronto, Ontario Canada.in terms of creativity and audiences? And the scene in other countries?
Yone:  The scene is very much alive.  Funny enough, I find there are more options for clubs in Toronto than any other place we have been to.  I didn't realize the scene was so big here.  We have many clubs that exclusively play industrial all week long.  There are also many cool industrial bands from Toronto and Canada.  Hey, Skinny Puppy and FLA are Canadian :)

20- you have very nice albums 1996 their first CD release Overdosing.Technophoby,Bio-Vital,EVOLution,Mechanical Horizon,Phoenix,Shockwave,Combustion tell me about lyrical compositions what you can tell about the done work? How does your music creation process work? How do you create a song?
Yone:  Marco mostly writes the lyrics, but sometimes I do.  As for the creative process of developing a song, it's hard to say.  It's always different.  Sometimes I start a song, then Marco finishes it, or vice versa.  We don't have set positions in the band, except for vocals and guitar.  We both handle all aspects of the song, but sometimes it's more Marco or more me.  Hard to tell.

21-What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
Marco:  Electronic Music.

22-Since the music industry is more open now to purely electronic music has this made things easier for you?
Yone:  I am very happy to see mainstream artists using electronic music creatively.  I love Daft Punk.  And it's incredible that Kanye West did a song with Daft Punk.  That really shows you how electronic music can become more mainstream, but keep an edge on it still.  I hope there will be more blending of styles in the future.

23-So what are their main influences as a band at the moment?

Yone:  Life and the struggles it presents.

Marco:  Life and daily emotions

24-What is currently inspiring your material as an artist? tell me all about the Electronica / Industrial scene of Toronto, Ontario Canada?
Yone:   As we mentioned above.

25-Do you think that people from the music press didn't expect you to grow up musically?
Yone:  I am not sure what the music press think of us.  We hope they like our music and encourage us.  We usually receive quite favourable reviews.

26-what is the key to making music from Decoded Feedback and what inspires you to keep growing as a musician?
Marco:  As mentioned before the daily experiences and emotions.

27-How do you see the future of download / Copyright in area of goth- Electronica / Industrial music ? What are the best ways to develop it in your mind ?
Yone:  This is a huge issue.  I think the whole music and film industry need to rethink how to market music and film.  The people who find a way to control illegal downloads will be a millionaire!  We don't mind if someone downloads one song here and there, but it's really sad to think that fans don't realize that they are stealing music.  And, it will affect future music production.  Some artists might have to quit making music due to this.  I just find it sad that there is no feeling of guilt amongst the people who illegally download.

28-If there was one thing you want people to know about your band what would that be?

Yone:  We never stop growing and developing.  Music is in our blood and our souls.

Marco:  The passion we have and applying it in the process of making music

29-Please let us know about your upcoming plans, some new releases you like to confirm here
Yone:  2010 will be a very full and exciting year.  We will start off by doing a small west coast tour in California and Mexico, then release the CD in April, followed by premiering the CD at Kinetik, then playing Toronto with Covenant a couple of days afterward.  We are in the process of setting up a European and North American tour, and also festivals in Europe.  We hope 2010 is a very successful year.

30-It has been a pleasure to interview you on your musical activity,Well, any last words to your ebm-industrial fans?
Yone:  We hope to play in the Netherlands again soon!  It's such an amazing country.

31-and what is next on Toronto, Ontario Canada agenda?
Yone:  Music, music, music...  Music never stops.

32-thanks for your time! great work on the albums and good luck with everything.any How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
Yone:  Right now we have a few websites where you can listen to our music and also watch videos:

In 2010, we plan to set up a site that if the user registers they will get access to free songs and other advantages.  We are in the process of setting that up right now.
